Since training camp started, Taylor has maintained that Chase's participation has gone according to plan despite the appearance of a hold-in. At the team's annual media luncheon on July 22, team president Mike Brown indicated that a deal was going to be unlikely before the start of training camp. Chase is scheduled to make only $1.055 million in base salary this season, and the Bengals have exercised the $21.816 million fifth-year option on his contract for next season.
