Arizona Cardinals July Scouting Report
David Vohs
7/31/2017

The Cardinals held their annual Red and White scrimmage so my apologies for the late month report, but I wanted to wait until that scrimmage (I attended) was complete to give my comments. First, classy move to give WR Larry Fitzgerald, CB Patrick Peterson, and RB David Johnson commemorative jerseys to represent their 2016 Pro-Bowl honor. Larry has 10 pro-bowls – only WR Jerry Rice has more. CB Patrick Peterson has 6 straight… WOW!

QB: QB Carson Palmer looked so far ahead of everyone else. There is NO question who the starter is. QB Drew Stanton looked pretty good as well and hit the vast majority of his passes. However, I really liked how QB Blaine Gabbert looked in his attempts. Now, on several occasions when Gabbert took the snap the ball (not all his fault) ended up on the ground. Look for QB Blaine Gabbert to get a LOT of action in the pre-season.

RB: RB David Johnson is a beast. Period. However, RB David Johnson made several good hands catches in passing routes and 1 TD during the scrimmage. Get this man on your team somehow. RB Chris Johnson fumbled but got the ball back… that won’t happen often. RB Chris Johnson looks pretty good! RB Kerwynn Johnson and RB Eliijhaa Penny both looked pretty good. RB T.J. Logan is also in the mix. There are 4 spots. Where does this leave RB Andre Ellington? This is going to be a great battle. RB David Johnson, RB Chris Johnson are locks to make this team. That leaves 2 spots unless you can make a huge difference on special teams (do you hear me RB T.J. Logan?)

WR: Wow! Unfortunately WR John Brown is injured now but hopefully he is back soon. If WR John Brown is healthy, bring it. This team will move down the field. WR JJ Nelson is still doing good things. I liked what I saw from WR Larry Fitzgerald (of course) and WR Jaron Brown. I would love to have seen WR Anquan Boldin come back to the Cardinals, but I think they have enough talent to get it done. WR Chad Williams looked pretty good. Keep learning rookie, keep learning from #11.

TE: I liked what I saw from TE Jermaine Gresham of course. He should be a beast. TE Ifeanyi Momah looked amazing. Hopefully TE Troy Niklas comes back and gets on a roll.

K: K Phil Dawson is the guy. Period.

P: Didn’t see enough to know, but wow do the Cards need a good one.

Other notes:

CB Ronald Zamort was carted off the field and has an ACL injury. Sad. This kid has talent and was working towards perhaps starting or a very early reserve.

DT Robert Nkemdiche lit up the offensive line in drills during the scrimmage. Wow! Get that kid hungry and watchout.

RB Elijhaa Penny can handle a large running back load as well.

WR Jaron Brown – welcome back

The Cardinals have an early pre-season game this Thursday evening against the Dallas Cowboys in Ohio for the Hall of Fame Game. More after that game….

Go Cardinals

End.

"After being cheap for a couple seasons - and having the results to show for it - I subscribed again last year and promptly won my league. You guys do an excellent job. I love the Tiering approach - it really makes it easier to figure out the best way to make good value picks."
-- Brian Hammond

"Mike, I'm back in with you buddy. Don't know how many years I've been with you, but I could not bear the thought of playing fantasy this year, without your services -- no matter what my job situation is."
-- C. Savoni

"You already know the quality of the information available on this site, but Mike also responds immediately to customer issues. I did something to mess up my log in to the site and was unable to access it. One call to FFMastermind (Mike personally handled the issue) and things were cleared up and I was back in immediately."
