Arizona Cardinals June Scouting Report
David Vohs
6/27/2017

As the Cardinals head into training camp next month, the Cardinals have a bunch of questions heading into the season. The biggest question being, can this mix of talent who are 2 years removed from a 13-3 record do better than 7-8-1. That cannot happen this year. QB Carson Palmer and WR Larry Fitzgerald are back for one more try at a ring. Team chemistry needs to improve and this team needs to learn to win again.

Let’s take a look at the main areas for the Cardinals:

QB: QB Carson Palmer is the starter. The Cardinals did NOT get a young franchise QB in the 2017 NFL Rookie Draft. I believe they wanted QB Patrick Mahomes in the draft but he was taken by the Kansas City Chiefs trading on up! The Cardinals are resting Palmer more than last year and in last year’s training camp which should help greatly. I fully expect QB Drew Stanton to be the #2 QB next year and I look for QB Blaine Gabbert looks to steal the #3 spot and may or may not be active on game day. The Cardinals will stash a young QB on the practice squad as well.

RB: Well, no mystery here. RB David Johnson is revved up for an amazing season. As a premier PPR league player with 80 catches and 879 yards receiving and 4 TDs along with a measly 1239 yards and 16 TDs rushing, this is the guy you need on the field. The Cardinals are hurting behind him for veteran experience. RB Chris Johnson is still out there to be signed. RB T.J. Logan was drafted in the 5th round and I really really want him to handle the kickoff returns. RB Andre Ellington is back (was in the WR pool for a bit) and RB Kerwynn Williams and RB Elijhaa Penny have the opportunity to be on the field for game times this year.

WR: The Cardinals have 1 future HOF’er WR Larry Fitzgerald and 12 others here to help. WR John Brown is supposed to be back on track health-wise. WR Jaron Brown should be back from his injury and can help with ball control. WR Aaron Dobson needs to step up big time into WR MicPhael Floyd’s old spot. WR JJ Nelson needs to continue stretching the field. Rookie WR Chad Williams is expected to be the next WR Anquan Boldin potentially. We will have to see. I would LOVE to see WR Anquan Boldin come back to finish his career.

TE: TE Jermaine Gresham is the starter. Period. TE Ricky Seals-Jones could make an impact. TE Troy Niklas needs to really show something.

K: PK Phil Dawson is in competition with himself. Kick well Phil, kick well !!

OL: Look for OT Jared Veldheer to move to Right Tackle and OT D.J. Humphries to become the left tackle of the future for the Cardinals. C Lucas Crowley will battle C A.Q. Shipley for the starting spot on the line. OG Evan Boehm, OG Mike Iupati, OG Cole Toner will be fighting for 2 spots.

End.
