Atlanta Falcons May Scouting Report
David Vohs
5/30/2017

The Atlanta Falcons lost a heart-breaking Super Bowl to the New England Patriots. Change just one small drive and that game was over. Now the Falcons have to fight, scratch, and claw their way back through a juggernaut of talented teams to make it back to the big game. Teams like Seattle, Green Bay, Dallas, Philadelphia, Washington, Carolina, and Minnesota.

First Round: The Falcons moved UP in the first round to select DE Takkarist McKinley giving a second edge rusher to work with OLB Vick Beasley this year and keep teams guessing who is attacking their QB. This was purely a need for rushing the QB pick. Interestingly, the Falcons gave up 2 picks to move up five spots for McKinley. The Falcons gave up the 95th pick and the 249th pick. Interestingly, they don’t have to give up anything next year. Not a bad move to get the guy you absolutely want. Fantasy Impact in 2017: IDP only but not a top contender.

Third Round: The Falcons selected LB Duke Riley to add depth at Linebacker. This was not their greatest need but they got a great player and had drafted their his teammate last year(LB Deion Jones). Another solid pick to help out the league’s top offense on the defensive side. Fantasy Impact: None in 2017.

Fourth Round: The Falcons went for depth with OG Sean Harlow from Oregon State. This pick (which many said they should have drafted a Guard earlier) is to help replace OG Chris Chester who retired. OG Sean Harlow has practiced or played each position on the offensive line. Fantasy Impact: None

Fifth Round: The Falcons traded with Buffalo to get 2 picks in the 5th round and selected CB Damontae Kazee and RB Brian Hill both from the Mountain West Conference. CB Damontae Kazee hopefully can continue the line of amazing CBs for the Falcons. Kazee may have to play FS this season until a CB position opens up. But amazingly, you want him in the backfield. The Falcons must have had ESP during this draft because their first 5th round pick was a good one and their second pick was as well. RB Brian Hill adds depth and some strong nose blocking to help QB Matt Ryan. RB Brian Hill has an opportunity in the future to make an impact. Fantasy Impact: None in 2017.

Fifth Round Atlanta Pick: The Falcons selected TE Eric Saubert from Drake with their last pick of the draft and their own 5th round pick. This pick is for depth and a third string TE behind TE Levine Toilolo and TE Austin Hooper. They would love to stash him on the practice squad but who knows if they can get away with that. He will make this team. Fantasy Impact: None 2017.

End.
