New York Giants April Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
4/27/2017

Here is the Giants pre-draft report before the first round kicks off later tonight.

Since the Giants return to playoff relevancy last year, they have no glaring holes to fill heading into tonight's draft as they are a solid, deep team. With that being the case, there are a multitude of directions they can go in the first round. The GMen do not have a history of trading up in the first round so I see that pattern continuing.

QB - There has been much discussion about the Giants drafting Eli's successor in this draft. I don't see them trading up to get Trubinsky or Watson in Round 1 so they will likely take someone later based on value. Mahomes or Kizer would be possibilities doing an Aaron Rodgers type of apprenticeship under Eli.

RB - A big body needs to be added here. They have been talking to RB LeGarrette Blount but if that doesn't pan out expect them to take a bruiser ala RB Brandon Jacobs on Day 2. All the talk about RB Christian McCaffrey is a smoke screen in my opinion.

WR - Big Blue seems set here so I don't expect to see a receiver drafted.

TE - The GMen are sorely in need of a playmaker here. TE OJ Howard will be gone but TE David Njoku is a physical freak. I would not be surprised if he is taken if still there in Rd 1.

OL - If a tight end isn't drafted in Round 1, I expect the Giants to draft an offensive lineman once they do their due diligence as several of them have checkered pasts. OL Cam Robinson or OL Garrett Bolles are possibilities.

DEF - The starting defense returns intact so I don't expect much via the draft unless they find a defensive tackle to replace DT Jonathan Hankins earlier in the draft or perhaps early Day 2.

That's all for now....stay tuned for a post draft report in May. Enjoy the draft!

End.
