I know that some have high expectations for the Chargers this season, and they may be correct. But I have concerns, primarily due to two reasons; a super tough schedule and a still unproven offensive line. I’ll believe that their O-line woes are fixed when I see it. Still, it’s certainly possible that some, or even many, skill players do well, but I sense that there are many questions that remain unanswered.

QB: In terms of raw talent and ability, I’m confident QB Justin Herbert is a top 10 quarterback, and maybe even top 5. But, as mentioned, he needs a solid offensive line to keep him upright. He didn’t have that last year. He might have it this year. He starts the year as a strong QB2 due to the O-line uncertainty but certainly has QB1 potential.

RB: Even though he’s been injured periodically, I’ve liked what I’ve seen from RB Omarion Hampton. He’ll be an RB1, and probably one of the first 5 running backs taken in most fantasy drafts. I also like the addition of speedy former Ravens’ RB Keaton Mitchell, who figures to be the Chargers 3^rd down, change-of-pace option. He’s probably worth a late-round grab, but his utilization remains unproven. RB Kimani Vidal periodically impressed in 2025, but I expect him to have limited use, absent an injury to Hampton or Mitchell.

WR: To be honest, I’m not sure what to expect this season. All players named have above average upside, but downside too. WR Ladd McConkey had a tail-off in production last season. For now, I consider him the top option and a WR2. Boom/bust WR Quentin Johnston showed much improvement, but he’s mostly a deep threat. WR3 for now. Rookie speedster WR Brenen Thompson, WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith, and Tre’ Harris will all have a role, but hard to say if it will be a prominent one. Free agent WR Keenan Allen remains unsigned as of this writing, but I think he’s still a solid possession receiver, despite his age.

TE: The Chargers are stacked at TE. I think that TE Oronde Gadsden has the potential to be terrific. Of course, the team has also signed TE David Njoku, who should still have plenty in the tank, and TE Charlie Kolar has been signed, but the 2 main threats are Gadsden and Njoku, with Gadsden having the most upside. Consider Njoku and Gadsden TE2s, for now.

PK: Short and sweet, PK Cameron Dicker is one of the NFL’s best, in my view.

DEF: I’m not sure what to expect. Again, we’re seeing a tough schedule, and of course highly regarded former DC Jesse Minter has departed to head the Ravens. S Tony Jefferson has been re-signed, and S Derwin James has deservedly received a huge new contract. Consider this a mid-tier defense until proven otherwise.
