Los Angeles Chargers April Scouting Report
Brad Willis
4/21/2026

Let’s face it. Last year, the Chargers offensive line, which was expected to be pretty good, was instead quite bad. Obviously, this is a crucial area that will need to be addressed through new free agent additions, and through the draft. Free agent additions have included C Tyler Biadasz, G Cole Strange, OT Trey Pipkins III, and look to see additions during the draft. Other areas of need include EDGE, defensive line, and corner. Here’s a look at the skill positions, as things currently stand.

QB: The starter remains QB Justin Herbert, who I consider having top 10 talent. The problem is that it’s hard for him to produce properly when he’s constantly hit or running for his life. As mentioned, improving the O-Line and adding depth should be the top priority in the draft. If they can’t protect Herbert, he can’t get it done.

RB: On paper, the Chargers running game seems to be in decent shape, if the offensive line can open some holes for them. RB Omarion Hampton has top 10 potential but remains somewhat unproven. RB Kimani Vidal returns and has shown to be a competent and explosive backup when called upon. RB Keaton Mitchell has been signed from the Ravens and should be a decent flexible option for the team.

WR: The Chargers have several competent, but unproven or inconsistent wideouts. The best bet is WR Ladd McConkey, who will likely remain the team’s top option and a WR2 in most fantasy leagues. Several newer players, including WR Tre’ Harris and WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith have shown flashes of quality play, but should not yet be established fantasy options. I’m not sure what will happen with WR Quentin Johnston. He did have a decent year in 2025, but I’m not entirely sure of his hands. Recently, Chargers GM Joe Hortiz said he’s received "zero calls" as to Johnston’s availability, although his name has surfaced in trade talks.

TE: In free agency, former Ravens’ TE Charlie Kolar has been signed, although he’s better known as a blocker than a receiver. The best fantasy option is TE Oronde Gadsden II, who has the potential to be a top 10 option.

PK: Returning is PK Cameron Dicker, who presents a solid, consistent, accurate option.

DEF: As mentioned, EDGE and safety remain primary needs. They really haven’t done a lot in free agency, so expect to see several additions in the draft, although clearly the offensive line remains the top priority. I’ll be back after the draft with a review and update.

End.
