Dallas Cowboys March Scouting Report
Dr. Gil Brovar
3/31/2026

The Cowboys have been active this offseason although the front office did not make the kind of splash moves that the annually promise the fan base. They have had glaring defensive needs, particularly at linebacker, edge rusher and defensive backfield.

They started quickly trading a 2027 draft pick for former Packers Edge Rashan Gary. They addressed the safety position by signing former Cardinals S Jalen Thompson and former Broncos S PJ Locke. Additional signings were DL OtitoOgbonnia, QB Sam Howell, Edge Tyrus Wheat, CB Cobie Durant, OL Matt Hennessy, CB Derion Kendrick, and DL Jonathan Bullard.

They made offers to several significant free agent linebackers, but the offers were not enough to result in contracts, which is typical of their inability to sign high priced players.

They did sign 4 of their own free agents such as RB Javonte Williams, OL TJ Bass, CB Corey Ballentine, and TE Princeton Fant. They placed the franchise tag on WR George Pickens and placed the second-round tender on K Brandon Aubrey.

They traded DL OsaOdighizuuwaand DL Solomon Thomas. Signing elsewhere was former Cowboys OL Brock Hoffman, WR Jalen Tolbert, S Juanyeh Thomas, LB Jack Sanbron, Edge Payton Turner and OL Robert Jones. Edge Jadeveon Clowneyis still in limbo as is S Donovan Wilson, andEdge Dante Fowler.

We are entering the draft with clear needs at linebacker and Edge rusher and could definitely use another cornerback. Additionally, the contract of WR George Pickens remains unclear. While he can play on the franchise tag, there is a chance that he will hold out and may end up being traded,

We enter the draft with picks 12 and 20 but no second-round pick. We have a third-round pick and a pick in every remaining round in addition to their beloved compensatory picks. They have a fetish for hoarding compensatory picks for some odd reason although they rarely result in the drafting of significant talent. There are rumors that they are interested in trading for a veteran middle linebacker who can actually play, but I will believe it when I see it.

Until then, let's wait and see.

End.
