Washington Commanders February Scouting Report
David Vohs
2/17/2026

Well, the wheels on the bus fell off in 2025. The Washington Commanders did not duplicate their successes of 2024.

The Commanders in 2024 were 12-5 485 points for and 391 against and 7-2 at home 5-3 away and ended the season with 5 straight wins.

In 2025, things didn’t improve, they went completely the opposite!

The Commanders in 2025 were 5-12 356 points for and 451 against going 2-6 at home and 3-6 away.

Obviously, this trend needs to reverse quickly. The Commanders really need to find some talent on both sides of the ball to continue competing in the NFC East.

Injuries definitely hurt this team but that also calls out a serious lack of depth on the team as well.

QB: QB Jayden Daniels has to stay healthy. This team will go as QB Jayden Daniels goes!

Needs: TE help. TE Zach Ertz tore his ACL on Dec 7 and probably will not be back with the team is my quess. They need "the guy". TE Ben Sinnott needs to up his pass catching and could be the answer (second round pick 2025).

WR: WR Terry McLaurin missed 7 games and WR Deebo Samuel missed 13 games. WR Luke McCaffrey had small breakouts but not enough and then he got injured. WR Jaylin Lane had 2 punt returns for scores and did catch 16 passes in 15 games so some glimmer of hope there. WR Treylon Burks needs to improve or go.

RB: RB Austin Ekeler was lost for basically the entire season. Rookie RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt had 805 yards and 8 TD but was exposed a bit as teams understood what he is. I’d like to see Washington add 2 young RBs into the mix and use them all! (Not good for fantasy but good for NFL Football!) RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt could be the answer but needs to improve in explosiveness and pass catching.

TE: TE Zach Ertz is a free agent and is not expected to return. There could be some interest in impending free-agent TE Isaiah Likely!

DEF: YES! All areas need improvement!

Washington Commanders 2026 Draft Picks:

Round 1 Pick #7 – Need: Get someone to pressure the QB

Round 3 Pick #71 – WR Please!

Round 5 Pick #145 – LB Please!

Round 6 Picks #185 and #196 – Pure athletes please!

Round 7 Pick #223 – See Round 6!

S Caleb Downs has been mocked to the Commanders at the #7 pick over all and I’d be fine with that. The defense needs help and this is solid play for years in the middle. Others mocked at this pick are: DE Keldric Faulk (Edge Auburn) and LB Arvell Reese (Ohio State) – if you get Reese you pick him. Period. Some have them taking RB Jeremiyah Love (ND). Not bad either!

The Combine and Draft should be entertaining for the Commanders. This year should bring quite an improvement!

Go Commanders!

End.
