Dallas Cowboys Early August Scouting Report
Dr. Gil Brovar
8/12/2025

There has not been much to cheer for at this point in Cowboy nation. The biggest issue is the contract of DE Micah Parsons. He has requested a trade although that could all be part of the negotiation. He is technically under contract and can then be franchised for 2 years after that. However, that is really not the path you want to go down with one of your best players. Hopefully the contract will be worked out in time for the season, but with the Joneses, you never know what would happen.

There was a preseason game against the Rams last weekend and while we did not play many starters, the usual deficiencies still showed up, namely, an inability to run the ball or stop the run. This has been a problem for the Cowboys for several years and for some reason, they never seem to address it. Additionally, their CB depth is poor but since Jerry "likes his guys", he is unlikely to spend any of the 30 million dollars of cap room he has available to upgrade the team. One addition that they made was to sign former OT/G La'el Collins as an extra body while LT Tyler Guyton recovers from his leg injury. He should be ready early in the season. DT Mazi Smith has been horrible in camp and does not appear to have made any progress since he was drafted. He will likely make the team and unfortunately will likely start because Jerry doesn't seem to be concerned about upgrading that position of need.

QB Joe Milton did not look good against the Rams but hopefully he will come along in the next couple of games. At least this performance will quiet those who wanted him to start over QB Dak Prescott. RB Jayden Blue hurt his foot but appears ready to practice again, dodging a bullet.

While preseason games do not matter and we never play our players, it is still important to make progress at least with schemes. Hopefully this will improve.

There will be a new report coming out in two weeks and I hope that report begins with an announcement of the signing of DE Micah Parsons, or the announcement that commissioner is forcing a sale of the franchise so that we can all be out from under the curse of the worst owner in all of professional sports.

End.

"I began using FFM in the late 1990s. For 20+ years they were an extremely valuable resource, as I enjoyed great success in my league during that period. Unfortunately, my league came to an end during the Covid years, and I stopped subscribing to FFM. After a year without Fantasy Football, I started looking into online sports betting and quickly realized FFM could again become a valuable source of information for prop bets on individual players. I resumed my subscription with FFM and have not looked back. FFM is clearly a dual threat; they can severely increase your odds of success in both fantasy leagues as well as prop betting. I almost feel guilty with the tremendous returns I get from such a modest investment in FFM."
-- Sal B.
