Los Angeles Chargers July Scouting Report
Brad Willis
7/27/2025

As we approach the beginning of the NFL preseason games, the Chargers are continuing to go through the paces of their 2025 training camp. This report will focus on the current state of the team, as of late July.

QB: This part is easy, as QB Justin Herbert will likely be a Top 10 fantasy option. There are some questions as to who he might throw to, or how much they’ll rely on the running game, but his talent is undeniable. He’ll be a QB1 in most fantasy leagues.

RB: The Chargers running situation appears to be somewhat in limbo. RB Najee Harris sustained an eye injury due to a 4th of July fireworks mishap and may miss some time early on. That means that it’s likely that rookie RB Omarion Hampton could well start the season as the Chargers top running back. I’ve never been huge on unproven rookie players, although certainly Hampton could do very well. One thing is likely; he will be given the opportunity to shine. As for Harris, I owned him last year and he performed well for me. But I’m not sure how long his eye injury will heal, nor do I know if he would be considered the Chargers RB1 or RB2. I probably wouldn’t chase either of these guys, due to that uncertainty.

WR: There’s only one thing clear to me about the Chargers receivers, WR Ladd McConkey is a WR1 and I have no idea about the rest of these receivers. As you may have heard, WR Mike Williams has retired, so thanks for the memories, Mike. I have a good feeling about WR Quentin Johnston, and at times he flashed substantial improvements, while then regressing and showing us hands made of stone. Can he get back on track? Maybe. McConkey is the only receiver I’d focus on, although I’d keep an eye on rookies WR Tre Harris and WR Keandre Lambert-Smith. They could be worth later round picks.

TE: From what I’ve heard, 5th Round pick TE Oronde Gadsden II has impressed in training camp. I’m assuming he’ll be the teams primary tight end, but of course there’s also TE Will Dissly and TE Tyler Conklin to consider. None of these guys are likely fantasy TE1s, but it’s possible that one or more could shine. Dissly exceeded expectations last season, and Gadsen appears to have good upside.

PK: The team’s kicker is PK Cameron Dicker, and he’s possibly a Top 10 fantasy option. He has a strong leg and excellent accuracy.

DEF: It seems that most years, the Chargers defense is average to slightly above. I sense this season will be much the same. 3rd round pick DT Jamaree Caldwell was drafted to be a run stuffer. 4th round pick EDGE Kyle Kennard was drafted to replace EDGE Joey Bosa.

End.
