New York Giants February Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
2/23/2025

After a disastrous 2024 campaign with only 3 victories, Big Blue heads into the offseason with the #3 pick. It’s fair to say this is a team with holes to address. The number one priority is to solve the quarterback puzzle. Unfortunately, it’s not a deep draft for quarterbacks so the GMen will need to do some work to address this. QB Cam Ward is the consensus top quarterback so if the Giants want him, they will need to trade up with Tennessee to get him. The price will be their 3rd pick and a 2nd and 3rd round pick, preferably split between 2025 & 2026. I am not a fan of QB Shedeur Sanders as he is on the small side and brings a lot of distractions with him. There are rumors of a possible trade for QB Matt Stafford but the cost is prohibitive. They would be better served with a veteran free agent like QB Russell Wilson or QB Jameis Winston in my opinion and draft a quarterback later to develop. QB Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss would fit that bill. Another possibility at #3 if he is there is Heisman Trophy winner CB Travis Hunter. He can be used in a variety of ways. I don’t see them drafting star EDGE Abdul Carter as he doesn’t bring a major need to this team. In any case, GM Joe Schoen and HC Brian Daboll are on the hot seat to turn the team around in 2025. If not, they will be looking for work elsewhere next year.

The quarterback room is wide open. The only certainty will be that QB Tommy DeVito will be signed as QB3. Other than that, it’s anyone’s guess at this point.

RB Tyrone Tracy Jr had a very nice rookie season. His only issue of note was ball security. This is a very deep draft at this position so I wouldn’t be surprised if someone was drafted in the 4th or 5th round for competition & depth. Tracy is a nice player but not a 300 touch a yr guy. RB Devin Singletary is meh, so possibly release him and save some money to upgrade the talent further at this position.

WR Malik Nabers is the true #1 receiver this team has been lacking. He broke the rookie record for receptions for wide receivers even with missing several games. If they can get someone who can throw him the ball consistently, watch out! I don’t think veteran WR Darius Slayton will be re-signed. WR Wan’dale Robinson is a trusty slot receiver but his yardage after the catch needs work. This is the year Big Blue needs to focus diligently on developing WR Jalin Hyatt. He has been a bust this far but has physical tools.

TE Theo Johnson was beginning to show promise before going down with a season ending injury. He possesses a nice size/speed combination and could be a dangerous offensive weapon.

DL Dexter Lawrence is a stud and a running mate may be drafted to pair with him. EDGE Brian Burns and LB Kayvon Thibodeaux are solid pass rushers.

LB Bobby Okereke needs to bounce back and have a good year. His season was cut short by an injury. Prior to that he was not playing at a high level. LB Micah McFadden had a very good year and has a nose for the football.

The Giants lack a true #1 cornerback. CB Deonte Banks isn’t that guy…yet. It’s a deep draft at this position so I expect it to be addressed. CB Dru Phillips and S Tyler Nubin had very good rookie seasons.

That’s it for now. More to come in March….

End.
