Dallas Cowboys Late August Scouting Report
Dr. Gil Brovar
8/29/2024

There have been some big developments since the last report, so I’ll start with the biggest story. CeeDee Lamb has signed his 4-year extension for an average of 34 million dollars per season. He is the second highest paid receiver. The way the deal works out, cap space is cleared. If they extend Dak, they will clear more cap space and be able to give Micah Parsons a new contract, but currently they do not have enough cap space to get the latter deal done.

The second biggest story is the injury to CB Deron Bland. He will be out for 6-8 weeks and as a result, rookie CB Caelen Carson will be called upon to step into a starter’s role. He has shined in the pre-season. There has not been any talk about signing Stephen Gilmore but if Carson does not measure up, I am sure this will be revisited.

In the meantime, the 53-man roster was released, and RB Deuce Vaughn has made the team. One hopes they use him effectively this season but who knows. Additionally, RB Malik Davis did not make the 53 but he was signed to the practice squad. Another big practice squad signing was aging RB Dalvin Cook. Hopefully he will have some juice left but that is unclear at this time. I expect he will be brought up to the varsity squad before the season begins, especially if another team tries to claim him off the practice squad.

QB Trey Lance has not looked good in the pre-season and was unable to take the backup role away from QB Cooper Rush. He did not good enough to even trade for a late round draft pick. He remains on the roster as the third QB but is not likely to ever see the field unless there is an emergency. We sure could have used that fourth round pick we traded away.

On the bright side, WR Ryan Flournoy, a late round pick this last draft, is looking good and made the team. He has shown something and may earn some solid playing time.

Now it is time to get ready for week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. This is a game we should win as QB DeShaun Watson has not been looking good. However, we have not been looking good either. Hopefully the contracts will all be worked out before the season is started but that is asking a lot from the stubborn Jones family. GO COWBOYS!!!

End.

"Thanks again for helping me win 3 championships in 4 years. Your premium services are great. Considering I won over $4,500 (net) in four years, I would say your service is quite a bargain."

"Great web site! You never let me down!"
-- Mike Panet

"I began using FFM in the late 1990s. For 20+ years they were an extremely valuable resource, as I enjoyed great success in my league during that period. Unfortunately, my league came to an end during the Covid years, and I stopped subscribing to FFM. After a year without Fantasy Football, I started looking into online sports betting and quickly realized FFM could again become a valuable source of information for prop bets on individual players. I resumed my subscription with FFM and have not looked back. FFM is clearly a dual threat; they can severely increase your odds of success in both fantasy leagues as well as prop betting. I almost feel guilty with the tremendous returns I get from such a modest investment in FFM."
