Los Angeles Chargers Late August Scouting Report
Brad Willis
8/28/2024

The Chargers finished the preseason at 1-2 with 38 points scored for and 48 points scored against. Obviously though, preseason games don’t much. And with most starters on the bench, did we learn anything new? Not much. And the Chargers were not a very high-scoring or exciting team during the preseason, but that may or may not change. Here’s a preseason wrap-up, complete with noteworthy releases and waivers.

QB: QB Easton Stick isn’t a fellow I have a lot of confidence in and should not be owned in any fantasy league. QB Max Duggan has been released, as was QB Luis Perez.

RB: The Chargers have claimed former Titans RB Hassan Haskins off waivers. The Chargers waived RB Isaiah Spiller, who I never thought had much talent, and they also waived RB Eligah Dotson, who I thought had some ability. Hopefully, he will get an opportunity elsewhere.

WR: Hall of Fame WR Jerry Rice’s son, rookie WR Brenden Rice, made the team, while WR Isaiah Wooden, WR Jaylen Johnson, WR Cornelius Johnson, and WR Jaelen Gill were released. In limited action, WR Semi Fehoko performed well.

TE: Released was TE Donald Parham, Jr., which was a surprise to me, as he does have speed and talent. Also released were TE Luke Benson, TE Tucker Fisk, TE Zach Heins, and TE Issac Rex, who was brought in just a few days ago.

PK: It’s all about PK Cameron Dicker, who will be the starter, but may have limited opportunities.

DEF: There weren’t any surprising defensive releases, in my view. The Chargers defense played well at times, during the preseason, but I still expect them to be a below average defense, despite HC Jim Harbaugh’s emphasis on having a strong D. 37-year-old Veteran S Tony Jefferson had a terrific 3rd preseason game, recording 2 INTs, 11 tackles, 3 assists, and a sack. Not sure how much Jefferson has left in the tank, but he made the team with such an outstanding performance.

That's it for the preseason! See you next week when I preview Week #1's game!

End.
