Cincinnati Bengals July Scouting Report
Mark Huber
7/10/2024

The Bengals don’t have many question marks when it comes to their roster for the 2024 season. Most of the fantasy positions are pretty well set but there are some openings for fantasy relevance down the line based on how this season plays out.

Rookies report July 20 and veterans report July 23 to the Kettering Health Practice Fields in downtown.

At quarterback, QB Joe Burrow is the clear cut top guy and has promised to make this a memorable season for the men in stripes.

QB Jake Browning is locked in behind Burrow. Browning played well while Burrow was out with injury last season.

At running back, this is interesting for sure. RB Zack Moss signed in free agency and is expected to get plenty of work. RB Chase Brown showed his speed and big-play ability last season and will be an integral part of this offense. How this plays out is a mystery still but both players are solid low-end running back twos, with games of running back one status. Brown may be the better play in PPR leagues as his pass catching skills could give him a step up. I don’t see any of the other backs getting much play unless there is an injury.

In the receiver room, WR Ja’Marr Chase and WR Tee Higgins are the top two. WR Jermaine Burton, WR Andrei Iosivas are going to be the next two in line for targets. Both are solid wide receiver three options and if, maybe when, Higgins leaves after this year in free agency, Iosivas or Burton could step in to the second receiver slot. Iosivas got off to a good start with a strong strong showing during organized team activities. Iosivas is big and athletic but Burton has the pedigree and draft capital. WR Charlie Jones might be a sneaky play if your league does special teams scoring for individuals. Given the new league rules for kickoffs, it could be a plus for Jones, who is one of the favorites to be a kick returner. Keep an eye on that. For now, none of the other receivers are worth having for now.

At tight end, it’s a hodge-podge of players with TE Mike Gesicki, TE Drew Sample, TE Tanner Hudson and TE Erick Ali. From a fantasy standpoint, Gesicki and Ali are the two to get now with a healhy Ali being a decent long-term play.

From a defensive standpoint, DL Sam Hubbard, DL Trey Hendrickson, LB Logan Wilson, LB Germaine Pratt, DB Geno Stone and DB Cam Taylor-Britt are good plays but not great for the most part. They will be solid but not many times spectacular.

Some non-starters who could have high impact are DL Myles Murphy, DB Jordan Battle, DB Dax Hill, DL Joseph Ossai. All could be better in 2025 than 2024 but you will see the upside this season.

End.
