Seattle Seahawks June Scouting Report
Rick Watts
6/27/2023

Minicamp went pretty much as expected in Seattle. All in all things look better than I expected, but the lack of size of the defensive front seven will likely dictate how this season goes.

QB:

All Geno all day. QB Geno Smith this time last year was not given his due and many expected QB Drew Lock to compete with him for a starting role. This year we know it is Geno’s team. We just do not know for how long. But Geno now has all the tools he could ever want to showcase his skills. Fantasy coaches take note.

The offensive line is looking much better with LT Charles Cross, LG Damien Lewis, OC Evan Brown, RG Phil Haynes, and RT Abe Lucas the likely starters. OC Olu Oluwatimi looks to have a chance to start and also looks to be someone who could stick there for a good long time. RG Anthony Bradford may beat out Haynes as well, but time will tell on that. At any rate, Seattle’s offensive line has broken its mold of contending for worst in the league and could contend for top ten.

RB:

It may be Geno’s team, but these runners will be fun to watch. RB Ken Walker already showed how he could impact the game and now RB Zach Charbonnet is going to show what he has too. Seattle does not have a good history for keeping running backs healthy, but these guys show all the signs of being a nightmare for defenses.

WR:

Speaking of defense’s nightmares, WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba seemed to just gel with the rest of the offense at camp. Defenses were already stretched dealing with WR Tyler Lockett and WR DK Metcalf. Adding JSN to that mix plus a serious run game threat is just nasty.

TE:

With all the shiny and new in running backs and receivers, tight end is just standing pat. TE Colby Parkinson may break out this year based on how things looked last year. And TE Noah Fant and TE Will Dissly look to be healthy too. Watch Parkinson as the season gets closer to see if he is worth a late add in fantasy drafts. He has exceptional talents and defenses will be stretched covering everyone else.

K:

PK Jason Myers is signed and ready for another year of more of the same.

D:

My biggest worry remains the defensive tackles. I think DT Cameron Young will do fine especially since he is bigger than advertised. But the rotation with DT Dre’Mont Jones, DT Jarran Reed, and DT Myles Adams is a bit weak. DT Mario Edwards is interesting in this mix, but he is more an interior pass rusher guy than a run blocker.

The defensive ends include second round pick DE Derick Hall, DE Uchenna Nwosu, DE Darrell Taylor, and DE Boye Mafe. Some concerns in this group too.

The linebackers still look sketchy to me too, despite the return of LB Bobby Wagner. LB Devin Bush and LB Jordyn Brooks will join him but I expect there will be a lot of scheme roles happening with all that talent in the secondary.

The secondary has CB Devon Witherspoon, CB Tariq Woolen, CB Coby Bryant, and CB Mike Jackson. Plus FS Quandre Diggs, SS Jamal Adams are making room for FS Julian Love. This could be a scary unit.

Go ‘Hawks!

End.
