Cincinnati Bengals March Scouting Report
Mark Huber
3/20/2023

The Cincinnati Bengals haven't made any major fantasy impact signings or deals to this point.

However, the addition of OT Orlando Brown should help the fantasy potential of the offense in general.

The Bengals defense took a hit in the secondary with the loss of S Jessie Bates and S Vonn Bell.

The offensive losses were TE Hayden Hurst and RB Samaje Perine. Neither are huge losses, however, both had some starting capabilities in the right situations last year.

The defense, as it stands now, probably is a little off the past few years standards. Now, the addition of S Nick Scott lessens the burden of the secondary losses as he is a very capable safety.

Germaine Pratt coming back is a plus as well.

Also the return of CB Chidobe Awuzie, injured cornerback, will help the secondary as well when he returns during the season.

The signing of Brown has put OT Jonah Williams on notice. The team's former left tackle has reportedly requested a trade because he doesn't want to play right tackle.

OT La'el Collins, also injured during the 2022 season but may not return in time for 2023 regular season, is the right tackle. If he came back and was in top form, this would be a loaded OL, likely top 3 in the league. Some have suggested the team will cut Collins with an injury designation. If that happens and Williams is traded the team will need a new RT.

The interesting part of the Williams situation is his value. He could return a decent player or a good pick, maybe a second or third rounder, If that happens, the team would be smart to deal him if he isn't willing to be a team player and move to RT. He was average at best at LT last year and Brown is a huge upgrade.

With Brown at LT, the Bengals could help a new/rookie/inexperienced RT a little more. So if Williams is traded and another piece can be obtained to help elsewhere, I'm all for it.After free agency's first week is in the books, the Bengals could still use a capable backup QB, a starter or very good backup at RB, a starting tight end (TE Foster Moreau has visited) and continued depth along the offensive line. On defense, depth pieces are needed at all levels but the secondary might get first nod.

End.
