Arizona Cardinals June Scouting Report
David Vohs
6/29/2022

Let’s take a look at what we are dealing with for the Arizona Cardinals as July approaches.

My thought is that GM Steve Keim is still looking to drop the hook on some free agents on one year contracts to round out this team. Let’s look at the upcoming Training Camp Rooms for each Fantasy Football relevant position:

QB: The Cardinals have 4 QBs on the roster. QB Kyler Murray is far and away the starter for this year if/when healthy. QB Colt McCoy, QB Trace McSorley and QB Jarrett Guarantano are all in a battle for the backup and third emergency QB. Any way you slice it, the Cardinals had better get QB Kyler Murray signed to a long term deal unless they really don’t like the QB.

RB: Fantasy-wise, this position comes down to RB James Conner, WR Darrel Williams, Rookie RB Keaontay Ingram (USC), and a battle for the 4th RB spot between RB Jonathan Ward, RB Ronnie Rivers, RB T.J. Pleger and RB Eno Benjamin. My bet is RB Eno Benjamin, but he really hasn’t been given a chance to shine.

TE: The Cardinals may have a relevant tight end in fantasy this season... TE Zach Ertz, TE Maxx Williams, and Rookie TE Trey McBride are the obvious frontrunners for making the roster and playing. The five others will hit the practice squad or get released. I can’t wait to watch Rookie TE Trey McBride. I hope he gets more time than WR Andy Isabella was afforded over the last 3 seasons.

WR: WR DeAndre Hopkins is suspended for 6 games currently. The Cardinals traded their #1 pick in 2022 for WR Marquise Brown. I personally didn’t like the move but QB Kyler Murray is pretty happy with the move so who am I to argue! WR AJ Green was re-signed and it’s time for WR Rondale Moore should break out this year. WR Andy Isabella is still a huge question mark for a second round pick. All in all- the Cardinals are lacking in wideout height but the TE’s will be used more for RedZone catches. This could be a leathal group in week 8 or 9 but it might struggle for a few weeks until they figure out who can make the plays.

Next month we’ll be looking at training camp (July 21 – Rookies July 25 – Vets).

Go Cardinals!

End.
