Seattle Seahawks June Scouting Report
Rick Watts
6/28/2022

There is still another month before camp and the Seahawks are not making any changes.

QB:

Let’s say that QB Geno Smith gets the nod. Based on his play last year my suspicion is that there will be no drop in fantasy value for any of the other skill positions. QB Russell Wilson’s injury and other issues last year dropped everyone’s value anyway. If QB Drew Lock gets the nod, then he will have had to show something that is not expected. That would make Seahawks’ receivers sleepers and they should be nabbed earlier in the fantasy drafts. But that is just some early summer speculation and I do not really think Lock will be ahead of Smith.

Offensive line:

I will keep being starry-eyed about the possibilities with LT Chris Cross, LG Damien Lewis, OC Kyle Fuller, RG Gabe Jackson, and RT Abe Lucas. The reality of facing veteran defenders with Smith under center will come soon enough.

RB:

I suspect that RB Kenneth Walker will be a sleeper of sorts. RB Chris Carson may not play again after his injury and RB Rashaad Penny is who he is until he shows that what he did in those last four games can continue without injury. I would draft him with caution, but if you have him then definitely get Walker too. But I see rookie of the year potential in Walker.

WR:

No matter who starts, I think that WR DK Metcalf will outperform expectations. Something was up between him and Wilson, in my uninformed opinion. With anyone else, DK becomes who he should be. Not that WR Tyler Lockett is any slouch, but Lockett is now definitely the WR2 on the ‘Hawks. Watch WR Dee Eskridge as he builds rapport with Smith during the camp. His rookie season was a mess with his injury and then Russ’s leaving him as a potential sleeper for this coming season as well while all eyes are on DK and Lockett.

TE:

TE Noah Fant should be a reasonable fantasy pick, but I expect the bulk of the passes will go to the wide receivers and the tight ends will be road paving for Walker.

K:

PK Jason Myers is the only kicker on the team. Oy. That makes my stomach churn. I would not pick him up in a fantasy draft on a bet.

D:

So who will be the first one to sack Wilson as a Bronco? It would be cool if it was DT Poona Ford. Spllllash. The middle of the line will be solid with Poona, DT Bryan Mone and DT Al Woods. Not to mention DT Quinton Jefferson.

Edge should get a bump with rookies DE Boye Mafe (2nd round) and DE Tyreke Smith (5th round) and DE Uchenna Nwosu and maybe DE Darrell Taylor improves himself too.

Linebackers LB Cody Barton and LB Jordyn Brooks will be okay. Right? I will still be looking for LB Bobby Wagner on the field for a while yet, but we should be fine without him.

Safeties SS Jamal Adams and FS Quandre Diggs will be solid.

But who will start at corner? CB Marquise Blair likely gets on as the only real nickel. I think the starters will be CB Justin Coleman and CB Artie Burns.

The ‘Hawks D will need to find their identity in a very offensively talented division. Odds are that they should not go very high in fantasy drafts, but I have a suspicion that they will end up better than most think. Maybe not by much though.

Go ‘Hawks!

End.
