New York Giants June Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
6/26/2022

Here is the Giants update for June:

QB Daniel Jones continues to be scrutinized in his role as part of the new look offense under HC Brian Daboll this season. I believe the offense will be tailored to his specific skill set and he will be set up to succeed. Another key factor in his improvement will be the new look offensive line which looks much better than what they’ve had during Jones’ tenure with the team. He also needs to stay healthy but backup QB Tyrod Taylor is a vast improvement over his predecessors for sure.

RB Saquon Barkley has an axe to grind and I think the offensive line will provide some room for him to run. In addition, they are developing plays to get him the ball in different ways which should provide headaches for opposing defenses. RB Matt Brieda is firmly entrenched as his backup.

I firmly believe the passing offense will be centered around WR Kenny Golladay. After a disappointing first year with the GMen, he has a lot to prove. WR Sterling Shepard is back with a pay cut but can you count on him to stay healthy? That’s a big if. They have two young exciting playmakers in WR Kadarius Toney and rookie WR WanDale Robinson. I can’t wait to see how these two human joysticks are utilized in the offense. WR Darius Slayton is on the outside looking in. His drop rate has increased the last two years and he doesn’t play special teams. Not a good combination.

The tight end room is brand new. Look for rookie TE Daniel Bellinger to step out from the crowd and become a trusted receiver by the middle of the season. He seems to have tools that harken back to the Kevin Boss days.

I cannot wait to see what the new look defense does under aggressive DC Wink Martindale. Players love playing this type of defense and it will put opposing offenses on their heels for sure. A big part of this will be rookie DE Kayvon Thibodeaux. His unique blend of speed and strength will be put on display as he teams up with exciting young DE Azeez Ojulari on the other side. The other good news is veteran LB Blake Martinez returns from an ACL injury to help coordinate the action on the field.

PK Graham Gano is a fixture.

That’s it for now.

More to come in July with training camp news….

End.
