Arizona Cardinals May Scouting Report
David Vohs
5/31/2022

First off, CB Jeff Gladney was killed in a car accident early Monday morning. CB Jeff Gladney had signed with the Cardinals in March 2022 after he was found NOT GUILTY of felony assault.

The Arizona Cardinals finished the 2022 NFL draft with a lot of questions marks and not much … YES!

Who did they select?

Round 2, No. 55 overall: TE Trey McBride, TE, Colorado State – Great compliment to TE Zach Ertz and TE Maxx Williams.

Round 3, No. 87 overall: DE Cameron Thomas, DE, San Diego State–Replacement for DE Chandler Jones? We will see!?!??

Round 3, No. 100 overall: DE Myjai Sanders, DE, Cincinnati - Raw understudy to DE Cameron Thomas who was selected 13 picks earlier. This is a huge area of need for the Cardinals.

Round 6, No. 201: RB Keaontay Ingram, RB, USC – solid backup initially to RB James Conner in AZ. Similar size and pass catching abilities.

Round 6, No. 215: OG Lecitus Smith, G, Virginia Tech – could start at some point in the season with some good coaching.

Round 7, No. 244 overall: CB Christian Matthew, CB, Valdosta State – Great size but can he make the team?

Round 7, No. 256: LB Jesse Luketa, LB, Penn State – Linebacker U – high motor guy that may be on special teams initially.

Round 7, No. 244 overall: OG Marquis Hayes, G, Oklahoma – should take some time to develop but has the right size at 6’5" 318 pounds. Let’s watch him in the pre-season.

WR Marquise Brown comes over from the Ravens for the Round 1 - #23 pick. This is due to the PED suspension of WR DeAndre Hopkins. WR Marquise Brown did show some good upside last year with 91 receptions 1008 yards and 6 TD. Not horrible, but he is no DHop (PED Suspension).

The 2022 schedule came out and the Cardinals do not have it easy by ANY means:

Kansas City at home, followed by Raiders in Vegas, Rams at home, Panthers in NC, Eagles at home, Seahawks in Seattle, NO at home at Minny followed by Seattle at home and Rams on the road. Not an easy start. The bye week comes in week 13 (Dec 4). A Christmas game enlightens the schedule followed by Atlanta and San Fran away to close out the season. Could be rough season for the Cards!

More on training camp next edition!

Go Cardinals!

End.
