Houston Texans May Scouting Report
David Trojanowsky
5/13/2022

Have the Texans done enough to turn the OL around? LG Kenyon Green drafted in April’s first-round joins returning C Justin Britt as the presumptive starter. RG A.J. Cann was a FA signing out of JAX. He will line up next to RT Tytus Howard. LT Laremy Tunsil anchors the left side. We will see.

Fourth rounder rookie RB Dameon Pierce joins RB Marlon Mack as the two serious O weapons available in the rushing game. If the offensive line returns look for the bulk of the carries coming from these two RBs. I like both as third tier fantasy backs. Pierce could move up to second tier if he gets the goal line carries.

WRs were plentiful in this year’s draft. Not so much TEs. The Texans needed more of both. Second round selection WR John Metchie III joins WR Brandin Cooks and WR Nico Collins, will play the slot. TE Teagan Quitorino is a late round selected to compete with TE Brevin Jordan. I would consider Metchie III, Cooks and Brevin as third tier fantasy WRs.

In the NFL International Pathway program, the Texans have been allocated 6-foot-5, 272-pound DT Adedayo Odeleye. I saw video of this Brit originally out of Nigeria. Love at first sight I would say. Additionally, the Texans have been signing veteran FA DEs. In the first wave DE Ogbo Okoronkwo with DE Rasheem Green, DE Mario Addison, and DE Jerry Hughes after the draft. Without a big star on the DL the plan is to keep everyone fresh by rotating the linemen. This D will only work well if it can put pressure on the QB.

The D did draft an MLB but spent two premium picks in the secondary. CB Derek Stingley Jr was the NFL’s third overall selection. One of their second-round selections was FS Jalen Pitre. The secondary play must be better this year. Cannot just give up big plays to these super passers that are in the league now. At least not every time.

Despite multiple selections in the early rounds of the draft the Texans are paper thin of the talent needed to compete against the better teams. The best thing that could happen is for QB Davis Mills to progress so they can use their multiple future first round selections on a monster DE and / or OLB in next year’s draft. Edge Will Anderson instead of QB C.J. Stroud.

End.

"I began using FFM in the late 1990s. For 20+ years they were an extremely valuable resource, as I enjoyed great success in my league during that period. Unfortunately, my league came to an end during the Covid years, and I stopped subscribing to FFM. After a year without Fantasy Football, I started looking into online sports betting and quickly realized FFM could again become a valuable source of information for prop bets on individual players. I resumed my subscription with FFM and have not looked back. FFM is clearly a dual threat; they can severely increase your odds of success in both fantasy leagues as well as prop betting. I almost feel guilty with the tremendous returns I get from such a modest investment in FFM."
