Los Angeles Rams Early August Scouting Report
Layton Pang
8/18/2021

Let the games begin! The most important news happened after the pseudo-game with Vegas. SS Jamal Adams is now the highest paid safety in the NFL and right behind LB Bobby Wagner for highest paid Seahawk defender. Seattle fans disagree on whether or not this was the right move, but that should stop once Adams plays in a real game and everyone forgets everything but watching him and DE Carlos Dunlap dominating the field.

LT Duane Brown will be the next to have his contract addressed. Then FS Quandre Diggs and then maybe LB KJ Wright? It is not off the table.

QB -

Nothing will happen in these preseason games to affect QB Russell Wilson’s fantasy draft rank. Brown not playing in the first regular season game would. All that is up with Brown is his longevity. What is he worth at 37 or 38? Once that is agreed then all will fall into place. As it stands Rookie LT Stone Forsythe got lots of reps, which is what he needed. If he had been pulled after the first half then he would have looked like a bust. But he was very solid in the second half especially in comparison to the first. No other news on the line yet. QB Geno Smith suffered a concussion and missed most of the game. He did not have the best camp and does need to show why he should be kept over QB Alex McGough. Seattle could put some money in Brown’s pocket with that swap and Russ almost never misses a down.

RB -

No starters played so there is no fantasy news on RB Chris Carson other than that RB Travis Homer will probably be coming off of PUP this week. But really RB Alex Collins runs more like Carson than Homer anyway. RB DeeJay Dallas had game in Vegas. He had 5 rushes for 24 yards, a 43 yard TD reception (and another 2 yard regular-type one), and two nice kick returns. I had him pegged as a sleeper for fantasy coaches to look at in late rounds. But more people will know about him if he keeps this up. This just in. RB Rashaad Penny is still injured. Shocker.

WR -

WR Freddie Swain did nothing to make himself look better than WR D Eskridge, and Eskridge was not even on the field since he also is expected to come off of PUP this week. I expect that Eskridge will show he can play next week and will rise up the fantasy boards a bit. He just cannot come up too high with WR DK Metcalf and WR Tyler Lockett up there. Did you know that WR John Ursua is still on the team? He is right there on the ticker with his negative yard for the game. Ursua and Swain are both going to lose an opportunity to make the team if they are not careful. And they both seemed like they could be a valid #3.

TE -

TE Colby Parkson hurt his foot in the game while lining up as a receiver. TE Will Dissly and TE Gerald Everett are the names fantasy coaches will be watching, but I hope Parkson is not on the sidelines long. I would like to see him get a shot.

K-

PK Jason Myers is still a Seahawk. Made his one XP.

D -

Adams is in. CB DJ Reed and CB Ahkello Witherspoon are likely starters at corner, though there was not much action in Vegas for them. Diggs has a contract issue which if resolved should set Seattle up nicely in the secondary. S Ryan Neal and CB Tre Brown looked like solid depth too. CB Tre Flowers looked just like he did last season. Like he should not be on the field. LB Ben Burr-Kirven was asked to impersonate Wagner for the night and he did well. 12 tackles goes a ways in that regard. LB Cody Braton also showed some things with his 2 sacks. Seattle should have okay depth here even without KJ. I think Seattle is in even better shape on the D Line. DE Darrell Taylor, DE Rasheem Green, and especially DE Alton Robinson showed up solid. Oh, and DE Aldon Smith has been waived due to overly complicated legal issues. DT Bryan Mone looked good on the inside. All in all this defense could be really good and I recommend picking them up in your fantasy draft.

Go ‘Hawks,

End.
