New York Giants Early August Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
8/15/2021
Here is the Giants update for the first half of August after their first preseason game. Big Blue lost to the Jets last night 12-7. The Giants main starters did not play, instead it was a chance for the young players and guys on the bubble to show their stuff. The Giants starters will play most of the third and final preseason game against the Patriots.
QB Daniel Jones did not play. QB Mike Glennon started and was not impressive. Not sure if it was all on him as the offensive line appeared to be inconsistent with their pass blocking. QB Clayton Thorson played most of the game and looked terrible. I don’t see the G-Men carrying 3 QB’s on game days.
RB Saquon Barkley did not play but has been practicing. I think he will be shooting to be ready for the first game of the season. RB Deonte Booker had a few decent runs. RB Corey Clement looked even better but had a costly fumble inside the 10 yard line when the Giants were driving for a touchdown.
Only WR Darius Slayton played a bit, while WR Kenny Golladay and WR Sterling Shepard were on the sideline. WR David Sills made a few nice catches but had a costly drop towards the end of the game which would have extended a drive.
Neither TE Evan Engram or TE Kyle Rudolph played. Nothing to report here.
None of the defensive stars played but I saw some nice things from LB Reggie Ragland and CB Rodarius Williams (Greedy’s brother). Also LB Carter Coughlin had a nice sack.
That’s it for now.
More to come in later in August….
End.
