Arizona Cardinals Early August Scouting Report
David Vohs
8/3/2021

Camp is open now!! Go Cardinals!

We are only a few days away from the HOF game this pre-season, and NFL players all over the country will be vying for positions with their respective teams.

The most unusual occurrence in Arizona as the Cardinals report to camp since the beginning of camp in 2004 is that WR Larry Fitzgerald won’t be there. As a fan, I would love one more season with #11 on the field but that isn’t my decision.

Training camp practices opened yesterday and continue again today. Red and White practice is scheduled for Aug 7 with pre-season games against Dallas (8/13), Kansas City (8/20) and New Orleans (8/28) before the season opens on the road in Tennessee on 9/12.

Let’s review what is happening with this team.

  • As QB Kyler Murray goes, this team will go. Period
  • LB Chandler Jones has requested a trade. So what, he’s going to make approx. $21M this year. Trading LB Chandler Jones makes zero sense for the Cardinals.
  • Heard the current ratio of Cardinal players who are vaccinated is over 90%
  • Cardinals need a pass catching tight end at some point. Where will they come from? TE Dan Arnold was pulled away by a good contract offer at $3M a year.
  • Cardinals won’t be able to handle many injuries this year. Health is of prime importance.
  • Game 1 against Tennessee will prove out the Cardinals secondary. WR A.J. Brown and WR Julio Jones really scare me more than gulp RB Derrick Henry. Am I crazy? I don’t think so, the Cardinals waited until very late in the draft to address the cornerback room and
  • DE J.J. Watt having a hamstring issue early in camp is very worrisome to me.
  • LB Zaven Collins and LB Isaiah Simmons should make a great linebacker duo for the foreseeable future. (Note: LB Zaven Collins was cited for 76 MPH in a 35 MPH zone – let’s NOT do that again!)
  • Early camp reports say WR DeAndre Hopkins, WR AJ Green, WR Christian Kirk, and WR Rondale Moore might be quite the formidable 4-some as a receiving corps.
  • WR AJ Green may love facing the #2CB each week. Let’s hope!
  • RB Chase Edmonds needs to stay healthy. RB James Connor does as well.
  • More in August as Training Camp continues!

Go Cardinals!

End.
