Houston Texans July Scouting Report
David Trojanowsky
7/30/2021

This week the Texans opened training camp. All prospects are here. I expect a new team will emerge in August that will be fun to watch. No more soap operas, I’m ready for that. The good news is that the Texans are only allowing season ticket holders to come to five of the practices. I will be there; I may be the only one. Hopefully there will be room to identify some of the scoring personalities. I will share my opinions.

Word is that the Texans in camp can’t believe all the bad vibes about the team. About 70% of the players are new to Houston. They don’t know that they are supposed to lose all the games and be terrible. Ex-fans and the sports newspersons in H town are mostly negative.

I think the brass realize that the Texans could have apoorseason, but the players don’t seem to know that yet. They seem to believe that they have a lot of talent and good coaching. Haven’t they been watching the sports channels?

QB Tyrod Taylor has assumed the role as number one. QB Davis Mills is getting a lot of snaps. Next week I have passes for practices and hope to be able to share with you how dire that position looks.QB Deshaun Watson is at the practices but he’s only waiting for a trade.

LT LaremyTunsil and RT Tytus Howard form bookends for an OL that is expected to play much better this year.RB David Johnson and RB Phillip Lindsey are expected to get a lot of work this year. Early reports from camp say Lindsey is by far their best talent. WR Anthony Miller and rookie WR Nico Collinsare impressing also.

DC Lovie Smith is putting in a new D. Second year DT Ross Blacklockand returning DL are expected to respond to the new coaching staff. The Texans signed two thousand FA linebackers in the off season. The hope is to find four or five who can play.

More to come in August.

End.
