Houston Texans June Scouting Report
David Trojanowsky
6/30/2021

Word is that the Texans looked so good at the recent OTAs that the coaches cancelled their minicamp! The real news is that all last year’s rookies showed and after bad mouthing last year’s coaches promised to do better this year.

I think the brass realizes that the Texans need to have a tanked-look alike season this year to insure the first pick in next year’s Draft. Foryou old timers’ kind of Oilers-esque. Whatever the strategy, as a ‘want to be fan’ I’m excited about the prospects of drafting a QB or OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux next April.

I’m always fascinated with the prospectsof a truly new Texans team. Second year DT Ross Blacklock may be the best player on the D. The Texans need lots of help.

LT LaremyTunsil and RT Tytus Howard form bookends for an OL that has plenty of replacement Gs and Cs. The OL could leak badly again or become one of the strengths of the team. RB David Johnson, RB Mark Ingram and RB Phillip Lindsey could be at the preface of a solid running game or not.

QB Davis Mills did have steady improvement during the OTAs. Until practice starts there are just so many question marks about the most basic of team functions.

Who knows what will emerge in 2021? I will keep my eyes open evaluating the new team in July and August.Somebody will have to score for the Texans, especially with that leaky D. I will try to identify them for you before your draft!

End.
