Arizona Cardinals May Scouting Report
David Vohs
5/31/2021

The Arizona Cardinals ended up with 1 pick in round 1, 1 pick in round 2, 1 pick in round 4, 2 picks in round 6 and 2 picks in round 7 in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Round 1: LB Zavin Collins – LB – Tulsa. Collins was very high on the Cardinals draft board and he will pair nicely on the inside with LB Isaiah Simmons (last year’s first round choice). This could be a dynamic duo in the middle of the Cardinal defense. Most grades I saw here were around the B+ area for this pick. Collins is an athletic 270 lbs that should really be able to move quickly in the middle.

Round 2: WR Rondale Moore was the selection for a future slot receiver for QB Kyler Murray. Coming into a crowded receiver room (as we still don’t know the future of WR Larry Fitzgerald) with WR DeAndre Hopkins, WR AJ Green, WR Christian Kirk, WR Andy Isabella and WR Rondale Moore. WR Rondale Moore will be a weapon for the Cardinals as the attention should be on Hopkins and Green. Many experts put a B+ rating here as WR Terrance Marshall was available as well. He may have been a better replacement for WR AJ Green next year.

Round 3: No pick

Round 4: CB Marco Wilson – Florida. The Cardinals must have seen something in CB Marco Wilson to move up 24 spots to get him, but there are many red flags here. Two torn ACL’s can’t be a good thing as well as the shoe throwing incident vs. LSU costing his team potentially a game. Let’s hope he can turn into something as he matures for the Cardinals.

Round 6: DE Victor Dimukeje – In the 6th round we are looking at boom or bust. With similar size to DE Markus Golden. I hope the Cardinals did their homework on this kid. DE Quincy Roche was still available here as well and may have been the better pick.

Round 6: CB Tay Gowan – UCF. Gowan should have gone much higher given some of his film, but opting out last year hurt his stock some. He could transition into a starter or be a nickel and reserve cornerback in the next upcoming seasons. Again, this could pan out as a great pick or a quick bust opportunity.

Round 7: S James Wiggins Cincinnati – a very very athletic pick who should push for a special teams role early in his career and then perhaps get on the field more and more. Again, this pick was for special teams and depth. I think this pick will end up making the roster easily and be a special teams force.

Round 7: C Michael Menet– Penn State – A backup move and depth for training camp is my guess here. I am hoping he can switch positions on the line as well.

So the Cardinals really have 2 starters in their picks and some depth. I would have liked to see the Cardinals get up into the third round, but that didn’t happen.

In other news, as a reminder, the Cardinals have gained: WR AJ Green, DE JJ Watt, CB Malcolm Butler, C Rodney Hudson, S Shawn Williams, K Matt Prater, TE Ross Travis, and WR Antoine Wesley.

Cardinal losses include: CB Patrick Peterson, RB Kenyon Drake, EDGE Haasan Reddick, C Mason Cole, TE Dan Arnold, and perhaps the one that may hurt the most, WR Trent Sherfield.

Well, we shall see what training camp brings in about 45 days.

Go Cardinals!

End.
