Arizona Cardinals March Scouting Report
David Vohs
3/29/2021

Well, the Cardinals made a great pre-splash to Free Agency and continued during Free Agency to strengthen their football team. Below are some of the Free Agency changes made to the Arizona Cardinal team:

  • WR Larry Fitzgerald has not re-signed with the Arizona Cardinals so we are in a "wait and see mode" Please sign with the Cardinals! (personal note!)
  • DL J.J. Watt (formerly Hou Texans) joined the Arizona Cardinals on a 2 year deal
  • WR A.J. Green (formerly Cin Bengals) joined the Arizona Cardinals on a 1 year deal
  • CB Patrick Peterson signed with the Minnesota Vikings on a 1 year deal
  • CB Malcolm Butler signed on a 1 year contract (great move)
  • C Rodney Hudson (formerly Vegas Raiders) signed with the Arizona Cardinals
  • LG Justin Pugh restructured his deal to stay with the AZ Cardinals
  • CB Robert Alford (oft injured) re-signed with the AZ Cardinals
  • LB Markus Golden signed with the AZ Cardinals (HUGE!)
  • K Matt Prater signed with the AZ Cardinals
  • RG Brian Winters signed with the AZ Cardinals
  • LB Haason Reddick signed with the Carolina Panthers for 1 year contract
  • P Andy Lee has re-signed with the AZ Cardinals
  • LG Max Garcia re-signed with the AZ Cardinals
  • DL Angelo Blackson signed with the Chicago Bears
  • C Mason Cole was traded to the Minnesota Vikings (not sure of this move - depth is needed)
  • TE Dan Arnold signed with the Carolina Panthers (can we EVER have a good tight end and use them?)
  • WR Trent Sherfield signed with the San Francisco 49ers (great special teamer)
  • Others: TE Darrell Daniels, LB Tanner Vallejo, DL Kylie Fitts, LB Dennis Gardeck, LB Zeke Turner, and WR A.J. Richardson all also re-signed with the AZ Cardinals.
  • Interesting Cardinals NOT signed in Free Agency currently:
    • CB Dre Kirkpatrick (will need to sign cheap if comes back)
    • De'Vondre Campbell - will need to be Cardinal friendly
    • DL Corey Peters - would love to see him signed by the Cardinals
    • PK Zane Gonzalez - nope - not with PK Matt Prater signed
    • QB Brett Hundley - good and cheap backup

The Cardinals are also now focusing on the 2021 NFL Draft. They have traded away a lot of their draft capital but have 6 picks (tied for fewest in the league with many). The Cardinals have approximately $6.7M in Rookie pool costs and $2.8M in cap space. They are in the lower echelon for rookie pick trade value. The Cardinals DO have the #16 pick overall and the #49 in round 2. After that, they have a long wait until rounds 5, 6, 7, and 7. Those are picks 160, 223, 243, and 247. Most of the attention will be on the first two picks. Needs are currently CB (x2), DL, OL, RB, WR.

Look for GM Steve Keim to potentially trade down to get more value. I believe the Cardinals will look to draft the best cornerback available in round 1 and potentially a tailback in round 2. The latest mock I read had Cards trading down to #22 with the Titans and at #49 grabbing RB Javonte Williams, NC and with their new pick #85 the Cardinals were mocked to grab WR Tylan Wallace Okla St. I would take that in a heart-beat.

Other top candidates in the draft are:

RB Travis Etienne, Clemson

LB Zaven Collins, Tulsa

TE Pat Freiermuth, Penn St.

WR Terrance Marshall, LSU

DL (Edge) Joseph Ossai, Texas

Look for the Cardinals to continue being active in free agency if some bargains come around. Mostly 1 year contracts I would assume. They need 1 more cornberback signed immediately.

Go Cardinals and let's see what is next.

End.

Testimonials

"Great site, been reading it for years. I visit lots of football sites every day of the year, and this is always the first one I go to!"
-- Doug

"Mike, I'm back in with you buddy. Don't know how many years I've been with you, but I could not bear the thought of playing fantasy this year, without your services -- no matter what my job situation is."
-- C. Savoni

"Well worth the $60 to 'buy" myself another fantasy championship. If only my competitors knew my secret!"
-- Billy Millen

"I began using FFM in the late 1990s. For 20+ years they were an extremely valuable resource, as I enjoyed great success in my league during that period. Unfortunately, my league came to an end during the Covid years, and I stopped subscribing to FFM. After a year without Fantasy Football, I started looking into online sports betting and quickly realized FFM could again become a valuable source of information for prop bets on individual players. I resumed my subscription with FFM and have not looked back. FFM is clearly a dual threat; they can severely increase your odds of success in both fantasy leagues as well as prop betting. I almost feel guilty with the tremendous returns I get from such a modest investment in FFM."
-- Sal B.

"Thank you for the awesome fantasy football info! Keep up the great work, I need a 2026 Trophy so I will be following all your premium updates!"
-- Imants E.
