New York Giants March Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
3/26/2021

Here is the Giants update for March:

Big Blueheads into the offseason with the #11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. Draft pundits are split 50/50 between an offensive and defensive player although the recent flurry of free agent activity would indicate an edge rusher would be in order. Michigan DE Kwity Paye or Miami DE Gregory Rousseau are the two best out there. The PSU LB Parsons is intriguing, but he comes with some off the field baggage I’m not sure they want to deal with especially after the Baker fiasco.

This will be QB Daniel Jones prove it year. They have given weapons across the offense, so he needs to stay healthy and produce. I think he has the physical tools to be an NFL quarterback, but I need to see more of his in-game decision making & management. To provide better depth, the Giants signed QB Mike Glennon to back up Jones. He has starting experience and a big arm.

RB Saquon Barkley has rehabbed diligently, and I expect him to provide a much needed boost to the offense. To back him up, the G-Men signed RB Devontae Booker who can do a little bit of everything. This signals farewell to RB Dion Lewis and RB Alfred Morris. Not sure about RB Wayne Gallman who I like a lot but stay tuned there.

Big Blue made a big splash in free agency by signing WR Kenny Golladay. He is a big bodied receiver who excels in making contested catches. They haven’t had a receiver like this since WR Plaxico Burress. WR Sterling Shepardand WR Darius Slayton return to complete a very good trio. At this juncture, I would be surprised if they draft a receiver #11 especially with such a deep draft class at that position.

TE Evan Engram was signed to another year and continues to be a conundrum wrapped up in an enigma. He has undeniable physical talent but can be maddingly inconsistent catching the ball. To alleviate this, the Giants signed veteran TE Kyle Rudolph. Rudolph is a prototypical inline tight end and a very reliable red zone target. Their respective skill sets complement one another in my opinion.

The Giants lost a key player in DT Dalvin Tomlinson during free agency but still have DT Dexter Lawrence and the newly signed DT Leonard Williams. They get back some edge rushers with DE Zo Carter and DE Oshane Ximines. Another huge signing was CB Adoree Jackson who rounds out an excellent secondary with CB James Bradberry, S Jabrill Peppers and young S Xavier McKinney.

PK Graham Gano had an outstanding season and was signed to a long-term deal.

That’s it for now. More to come in April….!!!

End.
