Seattle Seahawks Late August Scouting Report
Rick Watts
8/30/2020

Are we really just a couple of weeks away from kick off? Most teams stopped camp after another shooting. There is still lots of uncertainty.

QB-

QB Russell Wilson is always ready to go and should be taken early in fantasy drafts. QB Geno Smith has competition this year for backup, but he should still win out.

OL-

C Ethan Pocic has basically locked up the battle for Center as I expected. This made C Joey Hunt expendable and he is gone. G BJ Finney should start at left guard and rookie G Damien Lewis should win the right guard spot.

LT - Duane Brown

LG - BJ Finney (Mike Iupati, Phil Haynes)

C - Ethan Pocic (BJ Finney, Kyle Fuller)

RG - Damien Lewis (Jordan Simmons, Jamarco Jones)

RT - Jamarco Jones (Brandon Shell, Cedric Ogbuehi)

RB-

There will be talk that RB Carlos Hyde is playing well enough to make it a mistake to take RB Chris Carson early in fantasy drafts. Hyde had lots of camp snaps while Carson was taking care of a family matter. Carson will be back to his lead role and I do not see Hyde taking it from him. But RB DeeJay Dallas may have played well enough to challenge Hyde for 3rd down snaps. That will make it harder for RB Rashaad Penny to get on the field when he returns from injury. RB Carlos Hyde is still the best insurance for owners with Carson, but watch Dallas.

WR-

As I have been waiting for the WR Josh Gordon signing to add even more crazy speed to this group suddenly WR Paul Richardson is back. PRich is more crazy speed. He left the ‘Hawks for big money, but was injured and did not produce back east. So Seattle is bringing back their 2014 1st round pick at a bargain rate. He will join WR Tyler Lockett and WR DK Metcalf and maybe Gordon. WR Phillip Dorsett and WR David Moore should also be locks.

TE-

Remember my rule, do not draft TE Greg Olsen. TE Will Dissly is the man and is the one to draft. He will get the snaps and Olsen’s value will drop. Then consider picking up Olsen cheap. There are others in this group who will make noise, but Dissly and Olsen are the smart picks.

PK-

PK Stephen Hauschka was just released. Could we just nab him and replace PK Jason Myers? Myers only plays well when he is not in Seattle, I think. And Hausckha is always going to be a ‘Hawk.

D-

Not much changing here. Seattle is looking to be a wrecking ball defense even without

DE Jadeveon Clowney or DE Ziggy Ansah. DE Benson Mayowa and DE Rasheem Green along with DT Jarran Reed and DT Poona Ford should be the starting four.

The linebackers will be LB KJ Wright, LB Bobby Wagner and LB Bruce Irvin? That could happen even though I think LB Jordyn Brooks still has a shot at starting. I like Irvin and LB Shaquem Griffin as edge rushers instead.

LOB 2.0; CB Quinton Dunbar, CB Shaquill Griffin, SS Jamal Adams and FS Quandre Diggs. Joining them is FS Marquise Blair who is ballin’ at nickel. If this is a real season then this defense is going to be fun to watch.

Go Hawks!

End.
