New York Giants Late August Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
8/29/2020

Here is the second August update for the Giants after their Blue/White scrimmage last night at MetLife Stadium.

QB Daniel Jones has established a good connection with new OC Jason Garrett. I fully expect him to put his ball security issues behind him with the bulk he picked up in the offseason coupled with his football IQ. Jones has tremendous upside and would consider him a QB 12 in your drafts, especially with the weapons at his disposal. He would be an excellent backup with starter chops later in the season.

RB Saquon Barkley is primed for a big season. He also will be used for 3rd down which further boosts his fantasy value. As a result, I have him slightly ahead of CMC as the RB 1. If he stays on the field, he will put up consistent numbers all season. Expect 25 touches a game. RB Wayne Gallman is the primary backup and should be rostered as Saquon’s handcuff. I am not entirely sure about RB Dion Lewis’ role other than a change of pace back so I wouldn’t consider him to be draft worthy.

WR Sterling Shepard has been torching the secondary throughout training camp. He is a very solid receiver and would consider him to be a mid-range WR 2 with some upside. WR Golden Tate is an established veteran that can be drafted as a WR3 who could potentially see time as your flex. Young WR Darius Slayton is intriguing coming off a very good rookie campaign. Temper your enthusiasm and consider him as a WR3 for now. There are a lot of mouths to feed in this offense!

TE Evan Engram is fully recovered from Lis Franc surgery and is looking good in camp. His issue has always been the ability to stay healthy. That should be factored into his draft status as I consider him a TE8. He does have top 3 ability which is the frustrating part to his potential and past fantasy owners.

This defense has really been transformed. Young, fast, and aggressive. I would not consider them top 12 but they bear watching. The pass rush is definitely improved which has been an Achilles heel in the past.

PK Graham Gano is a proven veteran and a PK12 in my opinion.

That’s it for now, good luck in your drafts!

End.
