New York Giants July Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas

Here is the Giants update for July with training camp starting up in August since the preseason was cancelled due to COVID concerns:

QB Daniel Jones is the franchise QB. I expect him to make big strides this year, especially behind a revamped offensive line. He will also focus on his ball security issues which were a problem last year. QB Colt McCoy provides experienced, veteran depth behind the young signal caller. OT Nate Solder has opted out of the 2020 season so look for rookie 1st rounder OT Andrew Thomas to take over at left tackle.

RB Saquon Barkley is poised for a big season especially behind the improved O line, even without Solders. RB Dion Lewis is a prototypical 3rd down back who will fill an important role. RB Wayne Gallman is the defacto backup for Saquon.

WR Sterling Shepard leads a very solid receiving corps joined by WR Golden Tate and young WR Darius Slayton. These three receivers all have different skill sets and will provide Jones with very reliable targets. WR Corey Coleman is also in the mix.

This is the prove it season for TE Evan Engram. His 5th year option was picked up and he needs to prove he can stay on the field.

The defensive line is solid and the linebacker corps got a shot in the arm with the return of pass rushing LB Markus Golden. The secondary should be fine even with CB Deandre Baker on the commissioners exempt list due to his ongoing legal problems. S Xavier McKinney and S Jabrill Peppers will be an exciting combination.

PK Aldrick Rosas was cut due to his driving snafu and was replaced by PK Chandler Catanzaro.

That’s it for now.

More to come in August with preseason game news….
