DE Chase Young was the first pick and second overall by the Washington Redskins. The Redskins took a young QB last year and who knows if QB Cam Newton is in their future, but they took the player most everyone believed they would and should take. DE Chase Young could be terrorizing offensive players for the next 10 plus years and other teams will need to scheme against.

RB Antonio Gibson is an interesting pick having RB Adrian Peterson and RB Darrius Guice on the roster as well as RB Bryce Love coming off a torn ACL. So, will the Redskins keep 4 RBs? This is an interesting dilemma. Either they don’t believe RB Bryce Love will be back that quickly, or they worry about the health of all these guys and want to put Gibson on the practice squad for now. Good insurance, RB Antonio Gibson can also be used as a WR and hopefully special teams.

The first pick for the Redskins in the 4th Round, they took OT Saahdiq Charles, from LSU. A 6’4" monster at 321 pounds, who was the 15th overall rated OT in the draft according to Sports Illustrated may be a bargain at this position. The second pick may be the best of the entire draft save for DE Chase Young! WR Antonio Gandy-Golden could turn out to be the steal of the Redskin’s draft. G-G is a sleeper in this draft and I believe he could be the "X’ receiver in the NFL for the Redskins. The statistics show 6’4" 223 pound receiver is a huge Red Zone threat but has great hands, huge catch radius, and quicker than the combine showed.

With two picks in the 5th and two picks in the 7th round, the Redskins (after 3 straight offensive players – after DE Chase Young) took 4 more players completely opposite of the first 4. They took 1 Offensive player and 3 straight defensive players. After the OL from San Diego, the Redskins brought in LB Khaleke Hudson from Michigan, S Kamren Curl from Arkansas, and DE James Smith-Williams from NC State. LB Khaleke Hudson is the most intriguing of these picks. Hudson can play both LB and Safety and should stand out on special teams.

The Redskins did very well for themselves and got probably the best player in the draft. Young joins DL Montez Sweat, DL Daron Payne and DL Jonathan Allen (all first round picks) as well as DL Matt Ioannidis and Pro Bowler Ryan Kerrigan that is a rotation that will give the NFC East troubles. RB Antonio Gibson has a great upside but only had one productive year but did have 12 TDs on 71 touches. WR Antonio Gandy-Golden has to prove he can play with better competition but has the size and skills to do well.

Overall, most experts rated the Redskins a "B" but they probably earned that grade with just the #2 overall pick DE Chase Young.

Go Redskins!!

End.
