New York Giants April Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
4/20/2020

Here is the April update for Giants as the VIRTUAL NFL draft draws near:

QB Daniel Jones is firmly ensconced as the starting quarterback. Signing veteran QB Colt McCoy was a smart move as will be able to provide guidance to young Jones. Not sure if the Giants will carry 3 quarterbacks on the active roster.

RB Saquon Barkley leads the backfield corps. The signing of the very capable 3rd down RB Dion Lewis bodes well as he adds another dimension to the backfield. RB Wayne Gallman will round out the RB corps. They will likely add a 4th runner to this group.

The receiving corps appears set with WR Sterling Shepard and WR Golden Tate. Young 2nd year WR Darius Slayton is an exciting deep threat. They also re-signed WR Corey Coleman.

TE Evan Engram has a tremendous physical skill set but simply cannot stay on the field. Unfortunately, I don’t see that changing. There might be a young player drafted late to provide depth and competition.

The offensive line rebuild continues. This is a deep tackle draft class so they will take someone early in Round 1 or 2. My hope is they trade down and still have a shot at Willis, Wirfs, Becton or Thomas. A center might also be on the radar.

The defensive line appears to be set. I don’t see a major pick here.

If the G-Men don’t trade down, the pick here should be Clemson LB Isiah Simmons who can play multiple positions and is a physical specimen. They also upgraded this group by signing LB Blake Martinez and LB Kyle Fackrell from Green Bay. This might finally be a stout corps once again!

The signing of free agent CB James Bradberry was big as that gives them a legit #1 corner. I need to see who gets the nod opposite S Julius Peppers as veteran S Alvin Bethea was released.

That’s it for now.Enjoy the draft and more to come in May….

End.
