New York Giants March Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
3/23/2020

Here is the Giants update for March:

Big Blueheads into the offseason with the #4 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. Draft pundits are split 50/50 between an offensive and defensive player. If they don’t trade down, expectations are either Clemson LB Isiah Simmons or OSU CB Jeff Okudah for defense or Iowa OT Tristan Wirfs, Louisville OT Mekhi Becton or Alabama OT Jedrick Willis on offense. If they draft OL, I hope they trade down. The best player in this group is Simmon in my opinion. You can play him almost anywhere on defense and has the physical tools to be a real difference maker. He ran a 4.38 40 at the combine at 6’4" & 240 lbs. Amazing!

This will be QB Daniel Jones’ team. I expect continuous improvement from the young signal caller especially concerning ball security. HC Joe Judge will be preaching that constantly. To provide Jones with some depth and having some decent NFL experience, Big Blue signed QB Colt McCoy to a one-year deal. He will be a good mentor for Jones.

RB Saquon Barkley has been training extremely hard during the quarantine and I expect his supporting cast to be similar to last year. RB Wayne Gallman and RB Buck Allen will be capable backups.

The G-Men have a solid trio in WR Sterling Shepard, WR Golden Tate and WR Darius Slayton. Slayton will be the one to watch in his second year as he has deep speed and has established a nice connection with Jones.

TE Evan Engram continues to be a weapon when is healthy. It might not be a bad idea if Big Blue drafted a tight end later in the draft to have quality depth. TE Rhett Ellison retired due to concussions.

The Giants are deep on the defensive line but can use some more edge rushing help via free agency or the draft. Their big free agency signings have been LB Blake Martinez and CB James Bradberry. Both are good players and will be part of the new look defense of DC Patrick Graham.

PK Aldrick Rosas had a much better second half and received a 2nd round tender as a result.

That’s it for now. More to come in April….stay safe!!!

End.
