New York Giants February Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
2/23/2020

Here is the Giants update for February:

Big Blueheads into the offseason with the #4 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft. There is much debate as to what the Giants will do with the pick but at this point it is simply conjecture as the NFL Combine and Pro Day workouts are still to come. That’s where the rubber meets the road in terms of talent evaluation.

QB Daniel Jones is the undisputed leader of the offense. If he can work on his ball control issue, I think he will shine in 2020 as he possesses excellent physical ability. I also expect Big Blue to pick up a veteran backup with a proven track record.

RB Saquon Barkley is poised for a breakout campaign as he was hampered a good part of the year with a high ankle sprain. In spite of that, he still managed to rush for over 1,000 yards. RB Wayne Gallman was a capable backup and is very affordable. RB Buck Allen was picked up late in the year and is a good addition to the group if he is signed.

WR Sterling Shepard leads the receiving corps accompanied by exciting young WR Darius Slayton. WR Golden Tate rounds out a very solid group.

TE Evan Engram continues to be plagued by injuries. If he can stay healthy, he is an big weapon, especially for a mobile quarterback like Jones.

The two top prospects at #4 are CB Jeffrey Okudah from OSU and LB Isiah Simmons from Clemson. Both would fit very nicely. I don’t think they will take an offensive tackle in the first round as one can be drafted later. The defense needs a playmaker to team with S Jabrill Peppers and DT Dexter Lawrence. DL Leonard Williams is looking for big money but I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets the franchise tag if both sides cannot come to terms.

PK Aldrick Rosas rebounded in the second half after a poor first half. I expect him to be re-signed.

That’s it for now. More to come in March….

End.
