Los Angeles Rams Early August Scouting Report

ALOHA! After dropping the opening preseason game 14-3 to the Raiders, the Rams are in Honolulu Hawaii for preseason game two against the Dallas Cowboys. As he did last year, HC Sean McVay rested almost all of his starters. It will be the same this week as several stars such as RB Todd Gurley and QB Jared Goff did not even make the flight to the Aloha State. DT Aaron Donald did make the flight but will not play. Let’s take a look at the current Fantasy positions heading into week two of the preseason.

QB: QB Jared Goff has improved steadily under McVay and is poised to take the next step to the "Elite" level. For Fantasy Leagues I consider Jared a solid QB1 with potential to be a top 5 quarterback. QB Blake Bortles will start again for the Rams as he auditions for other teams for next year.

RB: RB Todd Gurley is the mystery man in Fantasy Leagues due to his late season knee issue but I say no guts no glory. Even if Todd carries less of load, he should still put up RB1 numbers. RB Malcom Brown sat out against Oakland but might get some play against Dallas. RB Darrell Henderson and RB John Kelly look to bounce back from lackluster performances against the Raiders, while RB Justin Davis is scheduled to return from a concussion. Kelly and Davis are both on the roster bubble and need to impress during the preseason to make the final roster.

WR: WR Bradin Cooks, WR Robert Woods, and WR Cooper Kupp will more than likely sit out most if not all of preseason. WR Josh Reynolds is a lock as the fourth receiver and should start against Dallas. WR Khadarel Hodge and WR Michael Thomas appear to be fighting for the sixth receiver spot unless the team decides to move on from punt and kick return man WR Jojo Natson.

TE: TE Tyler Higbee and TE Gerald Everett are entrenched as the 1A and 1B tight ends for the Rams so neither should play much in the preseason. No other tight end on the roster has any Fantasy Value.

K: PK Greg Zuerlein is one of best kickers in the League and a top 3 Fantasy Kicker. Los Angeles signed PK Brock Miller, who can also punt, to handle preseason kicking and punting to rest Zuerlein and All-Pro SP Johnny Hekker.

DEF: There are a few starting spots open, actually two, DT Sebastian Joseph-Day and Rookie DT Greg Gaines are battling to replace Ndamukong Suh and LB Micah Kiser and LB Bryce Hager are contending for Mark Barron’s starting spot. I think Kiser could be special, especially stopping the run and should start next to LB Cory Littleton. Two-time Defensive Player of the Year DT Aaron Donald is enjoying camp after sitting out the last two; and is poised for another great year.

Preseason games don’t count but they do matter. Many young players trying to make the roster or audition for other teams need as much game action as possible. The main objective is to avoid injury and the Rams do not risk their starters in preseason. It will be a beautiful day in Hawaii when the Rams face the Cowboys. The sun should be out but the stars will be on the sidelines or back in Los Angeles! Love and blessings to my family. Miss you Pops! Aloha!

End.
