Seattle Seahawks April Scouting Report
Rick Watts
4/22/2019

Almost as poorly kept of a secret as QB Russell Wilson wanting to retire a Seahawk is that GM John Schneider will trade down from the 21st pick to get more draft picks. At this point Seattle has the 21st pick in the first round plus a third (84), fourth (124) and fifth (159) round pick. Schneider would like to turn those 4 picks into something more like 8-10 picks, but it will be hard to get their value when everyone knows Seattle does not want to use just the four they have.

Wilson has inked a deal that will keep him a Seahawk until 2013, barring injury. After which time he will probably sail off into the sunset and buy a basketball team to move to Seattle, or something. Maybe go to Yankees camp? At any rate with QB Paxton Lynch waiting in the wings, Seattle will have no interest in drafting a quarterback this year.

The Offensive Line is always an option for improvement and Seattle may take a late round chance. But they seem fairly happy with the addition of OG Mike Iupati and resigning OG DJ Fluker.

Seattle is also happy with their running backs and tight ends and unlikely to draft any new blood here.

There is still no solid news on WR Doug Baldwin’s recovering from numerous off season surgeries. He is tough, but Seattle could use a big receiver in the draft as insurance. WR Tyler Lockett is the fast, small receiver and WR David Moore is a good #3 who is not quite fast or big. So having a guy with a shot at being Lockett’s #2 guy with good size would be best. I would not expect to find a guy like this in the early rounds, so he could be one of the guys picked up in the middle rounds after trades.

So now there is the defense. The biggest news is DE Frank Clark being on the trade block. Seattle could get a 2nd round pick for him this year or more later round picks which would free them up to use their #21 on someone like DE Rashan Gary out of Michigan. He could make a real impact. He is not Clark, but paying him instead of Clark would make it easier to pay LB Bobby Wagner next year. The majority of the picks for Seattle should be Edge, Interior DL and Safeties.

Go Hawks!

End.
