Houston Texans April Scouting Report
David Trojanowsky
4/19/2019

Forget all you’ve heard about the Texans drafting an offensive tackle or cornerback in the first round. TE T.J. Hockenson will be their selection if he’s there. He would become the difference-maker in the passing game. Chances of him being available when they draft at slot 23 are anywhere from remote to slim. TE Darren Fellswas signed as a FA to improve the blocking. Second year TE Jordon Thomas and TE Jordon Akins will have every opportunity to develop with or without the drafting of Hockenson.

The offensive line definitely is desperate for fresh talent. A LT and RT must be drafted. The only question is who and when.LT Matt Kalil was signed as a FA hope. I heard an interview with him; I like him and wish him good luck. He should be healthy for the season.

Another effective tailback must be found.RB Lamar Miller and RB D’onta Foreman are holdovers with talent sans an effective OL. Expect a post draft FA signing if RB Duke Johnson sticks with the Browns. Rumor is that he’ll become a Texan via a Draft Day trade.

WR Will Fuller, WR DeAndre Hopkins and WR Keke Coutee are the expected starters but Fuller and Coutee are injury prone suspects. Sure need to find some effective back-ups. I would not be surprised if the Texans figured out how to draft a wideout in the second round.

S Kareem Jackson and S Tyrann Mathieu left in FA. S Andre Hall retired. CB Aaron Colvin went from FA hope to SUSPECT due to a disappointing 2018. Can he re-emerge? FAs S Tashaun Gipson and CB Bradley Roby have joined the secondary squad. The team MUST draft talented CBs.

QB Deshaun Watson is healthy and got a new back-up when the team signed QB AJ McCarron.

With plenty cap cash available the Texans can add FA talent through the spring and summer. The Draft is next week. The most fun time of the year for people like us.
End.
