Houston Texans Late August Scouting Report
David Trojanowsky
8/27/2018

Draft QB Deshaun Watson if you can. After Watson the talent in the QB room is thin. No handcuff here.

OG Zach Fulton looks like a man among boys on this OL. Can C Nick Martin demonstrate he’s a legitimate NFL center? Stay tuned. There is hope for LT Julie’n Davenport and RT Seantrel Henderson; just didn’t see the starters enough in pre-season to be excited about this OL. The Texans are holding on to their 31 million cap cash hoping that OL talent becomes available from other teams’ cap casualties next week.

Draft rookie TE Jordon Akins in the last round if you can. Big fast guy that’s fun to watch. Can outrun anyone covering him down the middle. He can get separation and will be a scoring target. He won’t start; strictly an O weapon. WR DeAndre Hopkins and WR Will Fuller should be on your team with Watson at QB. Everyone knows about Hopkins but Fuller is a home run hitter who could light it up. This team will throw the deep ball. Rookie WR Keke Coutee is back at practice. His hamstring is well enough for him to practice. Consider him a DEEP sleeper.

RB Lamar Miller starts but he won’t win you a Super Bowl. RB D’onta Foreman could but he’ll start the season on the PUP list. Consider drafting him late, he’ll probably be back later in the year. RB Alfred Blue will probably get the early season goal line carries. Pick your poison with this group!

The front seven looks strong this year. It includes stars and quality back-ups. The secondary is still missing a cover CB that could make this D one of the NFL’s best. Time will tell if the special teams do any better in 2018. They have been terrible for years. On paper they have brought in the talent, only time will tell.

If the O clicks with Watson at QB this team will win games. I expect the O to go for the gusto.
End.
