New York Giants Late August Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
8/27/2018

Here is the second August update for the Giants after their 3rd preseason game with the Jets which resulted in a narrow 22-16 victory for the G-Men in Snoopy Bowl VIII. I will also include a fantasy draft perspective.

QB Eli Manning threw the ball well in spite of not having WR Odell Beckham Jr available. He is running plays with movement out of the pocket and I was surprised how well he threw the ball on the run. Given the considerable weapons at his disposal, he should be considered a low end #1 quarterback with some upside. QB Davis Webb held off rookie QB Kyle Lauletta for the #2 spot.

RB Saquon Barkley is the unquestioned starter. The team has held him out of the preseason games with a hamstring issue but he has returned to full practice. Given his diverse skill set, he is a clear late first round pick, especially in PPR formats. The only question will be if he is the goal line back. RB Jonathan Stewart looks old and slow. He has had an awful preseason and is fantasy fodder. The Saquon handcuff to own is RB Wayne Gallman who should be selected late in your draft. His skill set is similar to Saquon’s.

WR Odell Beckham Jr. has also been held out of preseason games but is a full practice participant. He looks 100% and is raring to go. He should be a late first round pick. WR Sterling Shepard will make a great flex play in PPR formats with WR2 upside. Will there be enough targets for him? WR Cody Latimer is the #3 but is not rosterable at the moment. No other receivers are currently worthy of fantasy consideration.

TE Evan Engram was concussed during the Jet game but is back at practice. He is on track for the opener vs Jacksonville. He is a consensus top 8 tight end with big play ability. TE Rhett Ellison and the rest of the crew are not worthy of drafting.

I am still not sold on this defense yet. The change from a 4-3 to a 3-4 is huge and I need to see these guys jell. As a result, they are outside my top 12. They could become an aggressive unit like the teams DC James Bettcher had in Arizona…wait and see.

PK Aldrick Rosas is the incumbent and is fantasy fodder!

That’s it for now, good luck in your drafts!

End.
