Seattle Seahawks Late August Scouting Report
Rick Watts
8/26/2018

August games are almost over and the regular season is just about here. Seattle’s fantasy players have been hard to predict for a couple of years now and this year will be no different.

QB

How many fantasy points will QB Russell Wilson score this year? He is definitely a top 5 quarterback in the real world, but will the run emphasis reduce his fantasy value? Having healthy running backs for a change will stop him from having to be the center of all fantasy points. I suspect most fantasy owners will pick him too high for his ultimate fantasy value. His real world value is much different. If he gets injured, Seattle is done for the year. But QB McGough will likely get the back up call.

RB

The starter will be RB Chris Carson and he has a good shot at being a fantasy stud. RB MIke Davis looks like the next best with RB Rashaad Penny not really having a place yet, Penny’s finger injury did not help, but even before that he had not earned a better role.RB CJ Prosise may be a 3rd down back, but he is already fighting injury. With an improved line and emphasis on the run there will be fantasy points to be had here. Drafting Penny does have a chance to pay off in the second half of the season as he starts maturing and earning playing time. But he seems like an unnecessary player on the team at this point.

WR

The first looks will go to WR Doug Baldwin then to WR Tyler Lockett. I would not draft beyond them. WR Brandon Marshall may take over the role of TE Jimmy Graham last year as a tall red zone target. There will be a lot of competition between the other guys, but the rest are unlikely to have fantasy value.

TE

These guys are pretty unknown but I think TE Will Dissy will end up having a decent fantasy year. But he will be sitting on waivers so there is no rush to knab him. I would scout him and look for signs of who will get the targets during the first game in Denver.

K

Veteran PK Sebastian Janikowski will do fine. Probably middle of the road fantasy value. Too bad we don’t get points for punters because that is where the kicking star is in Seattle.PK Michael Dickson looks like he has an All-Pro leg.

D

Suddenly the LOB has weak safeties. I am assuming that Earl will not come back and will eat fines for a year. That leaves Seattle with a couple of ok corners and a couple of safeties who may not make the grade. But their linebackers may be the best group of three Seattle has ever had on the field at the same time. Defensive tackle looks rock solid too. Defensive end may be a work in progress with big shoes to fill. But there is hope here. If Earl was still wanting to be a Seahawk they might be okay. Now they need to be careful of how much time they give the quarterback to pick them apart and find a way to generate turnovers. LB Bobby Wagner is my first pick for IDP, but the team D has taken a big hit and might be best to not even draft them for now.

End.
