2024 First Fantasy Football Thoughts: AFC/NFC South
by Michael Nazarek - 7/22/2024
Most training camps will begin this week, so it's time to take a closer look at the South Division teams to see how things are shaping up...
AFC SOUTH
Houston Texans: The Texans won their division in 2023, but failed to make the big game. Second-year QB C.J. Stroud had a big rookie season, and quickly showed he's a solid starting QB for fantasy. That certainly won't change in 2024 with the addition of WR Stefon Diggs. In the running game, RB Devin Singletaryleft via free agency, as the team acquired RB Joe Mixon from the Bengals to be their new workhorse back. Meanwhile, RB Dameon Pierce struggled last season, so he returns to back up Mixon and be his handcuff for fantasy. Mixon is a low-end RB1 as a Texan. RB Dare Ogunbowale returns for depth. In the passing game, WR Nico Collins and second-year WR Tank Dell return and will play alongside Diggs. This is obviously a stacked corps for the Texans, so expect a lot of passing and scoring from them. Collins remains the WR1, while Diggs and Dell are likely to take turns being the WR2 for the team. In fantasy terms, I'd rate them Collins, Diggs, and then Dell, but Dell may have the most value when it comes to ADP. WR Noah Brown and WR John Metchie return for depth, while veteran WR Robert Woods could be the odd man out later this summer, as he could be traded or outright cut. At tight end, veteran TE Dalton Schultz returns to start, but with the addition of Diggs, he will be hard pressed to maintain TE1 status for fantasy. Frankly, I'd look elsewhere for my fantasy starting TE in 2024. TE Brevin Jordan returns for depth. PK Ka'imi Fairbairn returns as the kicker, and is a top 5 PK for fantasy this season with the team likely to score more than they did last season.
