New York Giants July Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas
7/29/2021

Here is the Giants update for July one day into training camp:

Big things are expected from QB Daniel Jones as he has more weapons at his disposal than last year. The key area to watch for him is the development of his young offensive line. If he can stay upright and healthy, he will put up numbers. QB Mike Glennon remains his backup.

RB Saquon Barkley has progressed well in his rehab coming off his devastating ACL injury last year. He is starting the season off on the PUP list and I don’t expect him to be ready until the season opener. I am fine with that as we know what he is capable of and it provides an opportunity for RB Deonte Booker to show his wares.

WR Kenny Golladay is as advertised. This will be similar to when the G-Men acquired WR Plaxico Burress. He is a big target with a nice catch radius who excels at contested balls. WR Sterling Shepard is a nice complementary receiver and is the longest tenured Giant. I think WR Darius Slayton has developed a nice rapport with his young quarterback and will continue to make strides in 2021.

TE Evan Engram is on a one-year deal. He needs to be more consistent and stay healthy. Veteran TE Kyle Rudolph was signed to provide toughness and a reliable red zone target.

The defensive line is stout with the likes of DE Leonard Williams and DT Dexter Lawrence. The linebacking corps is improved and the secondary is the best it’s been in many years with the likes of CB James Bradberry, CB Adoree Jackson, S Jabrill Peppers and S Xavier McKinney.

PK Graham Gano had an outstanding season in 2020 and I expect more of the same in 2021. He is a consummate pro.

That’s it for now.

More to come in August with preseason game news….

End.
