Arizona Cardinals June Scouting Report
David Vohs
6/30/2019

Well, it’s hot in Arizona and the Cardinals are heating up (I hope!)

Coach KliffKingsburry is opening his practices this year with an unheard of 14 open practices! I was hoping the team would not allow reporters in and surprise the league with a new offense, but that isn’t going to happen.

Reports surfaced this week, saying the Cardinals have the worst roster in the league. That’s perfect. Let’s overlook this team and think they will be horrible all year. Bring that attitude on! The Cardinals seem to thrive being an underdog and will shake up a few teams this year. It may take a few games to put this all together, but look out if they start moving the ball with any frequency.

QB: QB Kyler Murray will be the starting QB this year. There is no doubt about that as long as he is healthy and available. The backup duties will fall to QB Brett Hundley or QB Charles Kanoff. I’d love to see QB Brett Hundley have an outstanding camp and take the backup role.

RB: RB David Johnson has something to prove. Last year was misery and very unproductive. RB Chase Edmonds should have the backup and relief spot sewn up with this new crew as he runs hard and proved he could be a starter in this league. RB DJ Foster (a personal favorite) should be handling some return duties and spell Chase and David in the 4th quarter. RB T.J. Logan needs to prove he can make this team as the #4 back and be productive while staying healthy.

WR: What a difference a few months make. When we last checked in, WR Larry Fitzgerald and WR Christian Kirk were the #1 and #2 (that hasn’t changed) but there was no-one else. Other receivers on this roster now look to add depth and speed to this team. Also on the roster battling for probably 6 or 7 spots will be: WR Hakeem Butler (Rookie), WR Damiere Byrd, WR Pharoh Cooper, WR Andy Isabella (Rookie), WR KeeSean Johnson (Rookie), WR A. J. Richardson, WR Kevin White, WR Trent Serfield (last year on team), and WR Chad Williams (Needs to prove he can stick on a roster). This should be a great camp battle.

TE: TE Maxx Williams and TE Ricky Seals-Jones will battle for the starting job, but I predict TE Ricky Seals-Jones will be utilized very effectively in this offense. TE Charles Clay is a favorite of KliffKingsburry as well. TE Drew Belcher, TE Deionte Thompson, and TE Darrell Daniels will fight for a roster spot and special teams.

Next month, we’ll look at the defense and see how that stacks up for Coach Vance Johnson.

Look for some exciting offensive plays from this team. If nothing else, they should be able to move the ball far more effectively than they did last year. It was a horrible thing to watch.

Go Cardinals!

End.
