It’s the era of the young’un in the NFL, and upside is king. From Hunter Renfrow to Miles Boykin to Daniel Jones, the kids are taking over. High draft picks are going for Josh Jacobs and Miles Sanders and Kyler Murray. Not saying those guys aren’t worth it, I like ‘em all.

 

But here’s the thing. What if some of those high upside picks don’t play, or play poorly? Last year people spent high picks on Royce Freeman and Ronald Jones and Kenyon Drake and dang, that was rough.

 

Meanwhile, guys like 79-year-old Peyton Barber were carrying the mail. Slowly, maybe, but carrying it. I invested just a couple of late-round picks in a few players no one wanted –weird-thrower Philip Rivers and a recovering Chris Carson and an elderly Larry Fitzgerald-- and got points from my backups that mattered when...
