New York Giants April Scouting Report
Tony DeArmas

Here is the April update for Giants as the NFL draft draws near:

QB Eli Manning has one year left on his contract and might be mentoring his replacement if the G-Men decide to draft a QB. There has been much speculation on that of late but the consensus is if you can protect Eli he can be effective, especially with a great running game. I believe the G-Men will go by their board regardless of position especially for the 6th and 17th pick in the first round.

RB Saquon Barkley leads the backfield corps. He is ably backed up by RB Wayne Gallman. I don’t see the Giants drafting a running back but they might sign a veteran free agent.

The receiving corps appears set with newly re-signed WR Sterling Shepard and WR Golden Tate. WR Corey Coleman and WR Cody Latimer round out the group. Big Blue might draft a big bodied receiver if one is available at the right time based on their draft board.

TE Evan Engram is set for a big third year. I don’t see anything happening here from a draft or free agency perspective.

The offensive line rebuild is almost done. They might be drafting a tackle providing there is one available at the right time in the early rounds.

The defensive line might get a shot in the arm if they draft an edge rusher either 6 or 17. A tackle might also be in the mix for one of the two first round picks.

I really like LSU LB Devin White at 6 but we shall see where he is on their draft board. An athletic sideline to sideline guy would be a great addition.

You can never have enough cornerbacks. That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised to see one drafted in the early rounds. Safety seems to be set with the starters for the moment.

That’s it for now.Enjoy the draft and more to come in May….
