-- NFL Suspends Ben Roethlisberger Six Games --ESPN reports NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has suspended Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger six games for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Goodell notified Roethlisberger he must undergo comprehensive behavioral evaluation. Goodell will review Roethlisberger's progress prior to the season and consider reducing suspension to four games. Failure to cooperate could lead to longer suspension.
-- Steelers Shopping Ben Roethlisberger --ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Pittsburgh Steelers are now actively shopping QB Ben Roethlisberger, possibly for a top ten draft pick.
-- Mike's View --Well, I thought QB Ben Roethlisberger would be suspended 2-4 games, so with this announcement (added to the fact the Steelers are shopping him) makes him no more than a risky fantasy backup, one in the #15 area (April rankings due out very soon!). If you draft him, draft him as your backup and ensure your starter doesn't have a BYE before week #7. But there's no guarantee he'll be a Steeler in September, so if you take him off your draft board completely, I don't blame you. The Steelers just re-acquired QB Byron Leftwich from the Bucs for a 7th-rounder, so it appears that Leftwich and QB Dennis Dixon will battle in camp for the starting job for the first 4-6 weeks. The Steelers could also draft a QB in the first round on Thursday, but that player won't start right away. This suspension also hurts the fantasy value of WR Hines Ward and WR Mike Wallace due to the drop in quality play at QB. TE Heath Miller could see even more targets without Big Ben, but less scoring chances. Any way you slice it, this is not good news for any Steelers fantasy player.

The QuarterbacksLast season's top of the heap QB believe it or not was Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, and although he begins this year at the top, the top three players listed are pretty much interchangeable. In fact, the other two QBs in the top 5 are also excellent fantasy choices. Furthermore, we believe any of the top 7 QBs ranked are solid fantasy starters. Bottom Line: You can easily win a fantasy title without the top QB, just make sure you grab to try to grab one of the top 7 and you should be fine.
The big question mark at QB is our #16 ranked player, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger. He is suspended for the first 6 games (could be reduced to 4 games) due to his recent poor conduct. Without a suspension looming, he would be our #8 ranked QB, but now becomes a risky fantasy backup QB choice. It also doesn’t help that he’s lost depth at the WR position after the WR Santonio Holmes trade.
Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco jumps into our top 10 after the team acquired WR Anquan Boldin and re-signed veteran WR Derrick Mason. Although the team remains a run-oriented unit, Boldin's presence will provide more scoring options via the pass in the red zone. The Ravens might be the most improved team offensively after free agency this season.
The Washington Redskins acquired QB Donovan McNabb from the Eagles, leaving QB Kevin Kolb as the starter in Philadelphia. McNabb will increase the passing game in Washington, but the team needs help at the wideout position if he's to remain a serious fantasy-producing starter. As for Kolb, the potential for top 10 numbers is there, but Kolb does make mistakes. He would have to prove himself before we recommend drafting him as our fantasy starter.

The elite fantasy STUD RB group at the top is a small, but potent group led by Tennessee Titans 2000-yard rusher, RB Chris Johnson. The next three on the list are solid STUDs with any of them having the potential to out-produce the others. San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore is a solid top 5 RB, but after that, things get messy. In other words, if you don't draft a top 5 RB, you should probably consider drafting an elite WR in the first round, especially if your league gives points per reception (PPR). This is a continuing trend towards a modified STUD RB Theory.
A tailback clearly on the rise this coming season is New York Jets RB Shonn Greene. He'll be the new starter with RB Thomas Jones signing with the Chiefs. The Jets signed RB LaDainian Tomlinson, but plan to use him more in the passing game and third down than at other times. RB Leon Washington returns, but still has some rehab to do on his broken leg. Greene will get every chance to do what Jones did as the lead back for a run-heavy offense.
Speaking of RB Thomas Jones, the Kansas City Chiefs signed him to boost the depth behind starting RB Jamaal Charles. The team still likes Charles as the lead back, but doesn't want to overwork him. That means Jones should see 8-10 carries per game, but Charles remains a top 15 fantasy RB.
