Week #5: Sunday Night Waiver Wire
9/28/2008
9/28/2008 - SUNDAY - 7:30 PM PT: The following waiver wire is a quick first look at certain players who could make a solid fantasy impact. They may or may not be free agents in your league, but we want to ensure you know about them in order to have the first chance at a possible free agent acquisition. This list does NOT replace our free-agent feature released on Tuesday nights ("The Market"). You should consider it an abbreviated early-bird bonus list with a quick 1-2 lines of fantasy analysis. Note: This list is NOT A RANKING, but rather just a quick list. Our free-agent rankings for the week will be released in Tuesday's "Market" feature in PART I of the Newsletter...
QB Trent Edwards, BUF – He failed to break the 200-yard barrier, but came close at 197 yards and did manage a score against the Rams. A bit of a disappointment, but with the team 4-0, there’s no questioning his leadership.
QB J.T. O’Sullivan, SF – He came up a bit short today against the Saints, but still managed 257 passing yards and a score. He remains a nice BYE week start for most fantasy leagues.
QB JaMarcus Russell, OAK – He surprisingly threw for 277 yards and a score against the Chargers today. He’s up and down, but can produce on occasion for a fantasy team in need.
QB Damon Huard, KC – He led the Chiefs to a surprise win over the Broncos today with one passing score. That should earn him another start while QB Brodie Croyle continues to recover from a shoulder injury.
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, CIN – He stepped in when QB Carson Palmer (elbow) was a last minute scratch and threw one score. If Palmer can’t play next week, he’ll get another start.
RB Deuce McAllister, NO – The Saints finally started McAllister and he proved he’s healthy, by rushing for 73 yards and a score and adding a 10-yard catch. RB Pierre Thomas owners best pick up McAllister if he’s available!
RB Michael Bush, OAK – With rookie RB Darren McFadden (toe) gimpy, Bush carries most of the load today, totaling 128 yards on 21 touches.
RB Michael Pittman, DEN – He didn’t score for the 4th game in a row, but he makes the most of his touches, totaling 81 yards on six touches. That’s 10.1 points in a PPR league.
RB Warrick Dunn, TB – He’s seeing plenty of touches, as he rushed for 63 yards on 16 carriers today, while adding another 2 catches for 23 yards.
RB Fred Jackson, BUF – He was a key producer today, scoring on a surprise 22-yard burst to get the Bills back into the game. He totaled 55 yards on just 10 touches.
RB Tim Hightower, ARZ – He scored again on 7 touches today in a shootout against the Jets.
WR Kevin Walter, HOU – Simply put, he is the CURRENT best WR the Texans have after scoring twice today. WR Andre Johnson just isn’t getting the job done.
WR Lance Moore, NO – Wow. Moore did his best WR Marques Colston impression today, catching 7 passes for 101 yards and TWO scores.
WR Muhsin Muhammad, CAR – When WR Steve Smith produces a score, Muhammad likes to pitch in too, and he certainly did that today, catching a team-high 8 passes for 147 yards and a score.
WR Justin Gage, TEN – He’s healthy and returned to the lineup as the #1 WR today, catching a team-high 5 passes for 92 yards.
WR Steve Breaston, ARZ – With the Cardinals playing catch-up all game long against the Jets, Breaston stepped up and caught 9 passes for 122 yards. And if WR Anquan Boldin (knocked out) misses time, Breaston will start.
WR Arnaz Battle, SF – With WR Bryant Johnson (hamstring) gimpy, Battle stepped up his play, catching a team-high 7 passes for 120 yards.
WR Brandon Stokley, DEN – With the Broncos forced to play catch-up, Stokley was good for 7 catches and 80 pass-receiving yards.
WR Bobby Wade, MIN – Wade led the Vikings today with 7 catches for 75 yards. Until WR Sidney Rice (knee) is fully healthy, he should continue to see plenty of targets.
TE Zach Miller, OAK – He totaled 95 yards receiving today, including a sweet 63-yard pass catch and run over the middle for a score.
TE Dustin Keller, NYJ – He caught just one pass today, but it went for a score. That’s two scores in two weeks!
TE Alex Smith, TB – It was his turn to score today, as the Bucs like to rotate their TE production between several players.
TE Visanthe Shiancoe, MIN – He caught 4 passes for 47 yards today. That’s 8.7 points in a PPR league!
End.
